2003 E55 AMG loud clicking behind dash and dead battery
Hello all,
I recently got a starter replaced (last 7 days) because with the recent cold weather it finally gave out. All was fine until this morning, I get in my car and the battery is pretty dead. no response whatsoever to the key fob being inserted, and ignition is locked. I shot my battery with a MM and it read 4 volts. I trickle charged it for about an hour and when I hook the battery back up to see if I would get any response from the ignition, a very loud clicking noise similar to a cricket is coming from behind my dash where the fuse box is on the driver side.
Does anyone know what this could be and if its sucking power out of the battery?

The sound is most likely the starter relay engaging and then disengaging because the starter pulls the voltage down to the point the relay releases. The relay then re-engages, starter attempts to engage, voltage drops, relay releases. Lather, rinse, repeat.
A relatively inexpensive check is a solar BA5 battery tester. A new battery will show over 1,000 cold cranking amps on a battery rated for 900 cold cranking amps. I would hazard a guess that your battery is less than half that...
The battery in the trunk is an H8 rated at 900 cold cranking amps and is an AGM.
