hmm found a cls 550 4matic might be getting rid of my e55

So, I've owned a 2006 e55 since 2010, driven very hard 158k miles and still seemingly going strong, but it has lots of small issues like the seats are shot, paint very slightly deteriorated needs brakes and new shocks, suspension is making all sorts of odd noises loud clunks all the time etc and it has a very slight leak so if it rains hard, it smells damp the next day. So, I may have purchased a 2012 cls 550 4matic with 81k on it paid 19k for it, it's going through inspection currently. it looks very clean nothing abnormal the only issue I see is that the original front glass was replace, not ideal hopefully not a harbinger of other issues. 19k for a car with only 81k it has the premium package seems almost too good to be true which normally sets off my spidy senses but the carfax was good (don't always trust that) started out as leased car, all the mileage checks are good in terms of service reports, so I think the odometer is accurate. all the body panels are perfect in terms of alignment etc, no scratches except the amg wheels are a bit scratched\trashed up. These cars have so many features it's hard to test them all.

Now the issues are just letting go of the 55 definitely the 55 is seems more powerful but not sure after comparing them going up a long hill the 550 was 20mph faster at the top and seemed to have even more room left, the 55 was maxed out early screaming it awesome exhaust sound, but seemed to get to that speed quicker, might just be the old 55 is starting to lose so power. It's somewhat of an emotional issue too, the car was brilliant in its day and still is in lots or ways. Haven't sold the e55 yet but wife doesn't want another car in the garage, and I don't either really, so tough day at this point.

lol the one thing I found out after the fact is that you can't do a top side oil drain.

Sorry about rambling.

e55 AMG
I had 14 CLS550 with ALL options, it even had night vision, I sold it 6 months later.
Yes looks good, yes quick, but it was so brittle…
I had a feeling it was made out of glass, I was afraid to push it.
First it was alternator, then oil filter housing, then coolant leak from heater valve, all vacuum hoses had to be replaced, turbo oil lines, cam sensors….
And no, it was not a bad car or high miles unfortunately it was designed to last 50000 miles.
🤷🏻‍♂️
I love my e55, issues that 18 yo car gives me are pleasant to DIY, and I enjoy working on it.
Everything is simple and solid.

yea have a friend that says his 2013 cls is the most reliable car he has owned, but I don't 100% believe him, guess I get to find out. the issue with the e55 is that parts are starting to become unavailable so we'll need to get creative to find these parts. Also I don't like working on my car any more too old for that. Somewhat interested in the renntech stuff for performance.

Just think it over properly and make a decision. Sometime you win, sometimes you lose. Thats life

Or go for a W219 CLS55 and have the same issues but in a better looking car than the E55 (j/k)

I just bought a 550 CLS 2012. I love the car it’s amazing sad to say though I bought it last Wednesday and this Monday I already had to replace an air shock. 1435 but I only paid 6400 for it.. not a scratch anywhere 0 codes. I drove it to the country over the weekend and that’s where I caught my leak.. but amazing car!
