Help needed with E55 minimum shift speeds

Hi All,

I have an M113K with 722.6 transmission that is running an aftermarket TCU. The minimum shift speeds between all gears (1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 4, 4 to 5) can be set at whatever km/h the user desires. I was hoping that someone with an E55 could do some light cruising and make note of what those minimum shift speeds are, or direct me if this information is already known.

cheers

no far from it, it’s 1986 560SEC with engine and transmission swap. The 560SEC has similar weight to the E55 and the rear end ratio is 2.65:1 which I remember being quite similar to E55 so considering same engine, transmission, weight etc. the E55 would be a good match for the shift speeds

Minimum shift engine speed seems to be at 1850 rpm or so for all gears. Very light throttle.

cheers cdk4219, but I probably should have been more specific with my request, I was wanting vehicle speed not engine speed

Maybe you should drive your car around and find what speed that is.

I do not know what that speed is, I have an aftermarket TCU that I am trying calibrate, I can only shift in manual mode.

How about driving in manual mode with your phone on GPS and determining what 1850rpm is ie a given gear.

1850rpm divided by transmission gear ratio (i.e 1st, 2nd, 3rd,etc) divided by differential ratio multiplied by circumference of tire.
example with arbitrary gear ratios:
1850 rpm / 3.5 / 2.65 * tire circumference.
Assuming 18" wheel with 240/50 tire ( yes, I am mixing sae and metric while converting in the process) circumference = 5.5'.
200 rpm * 5.5' per revolution= 1100 feet per minute = 12 1/2 mph.
It's just math. Calculate first before trying it in the real world. Can save a lot of money and time. Feel free to verify as I did this on my phone over a cup of coffee.
You can save a lot of time by entering this into a spreadsheet with formulas. Allows one to "what if" with multiple values.
