Will a 09 e class amg steering wheel work on a 04 e55amg?

Since both vehicles are W211, technically the 2009 steering wheel will work on a 2004, some adjustments will need to be made if you plan to use the E63 paddle shifters.
But steering wheel button functionality should be the same. I have seen 07-09 E63 steering wheels mounted in 04-05 E55's, if that helps.

There is a mountain of junked W211s in the pick your part these days... One could pull the clockspring in about 15 minutes and a few bucks worth of effort.
Editing this for accuracy since I quite literally just did this. There are other posts that go into more detail but the right information can be buried in the myriad of questions and replies.
You will indeed need the updated clock spring, but it will not fit into your steering column electronics... You'll need the entire steering column from an 05 or newer car, and additionally the wiring harness that goes into the steering colum needs to be changed or repinned. I was able to acquire the harness from the dealership, and cut off the connector and about 3 inches of wire. The easiest way to implement this change is just match wire color to wire color, and solder the new harness end into the existing harness. Your horn, and shift buttons won't work unless you do this. Unsure if the airbag will work either. (BTW the airbags look similar but are not interchangeable between wheels, so you'll need both pieces. I pulled my new wheel off of an 09 E350 sport that had shift paddles.
Some things to note: your existing shift paddles or buttons will no longer work, and your car will shift erratically until you finish the project to completion. You will need to turn off the original shift buttons in xentry, then if you decide to add the aluminum E63 paddles they will be plug and play, so long as you have updated the harness and the steering colum electronics. Best bet for that is to purchase a whole unit at once either from ebay or junkyard. The insides are all different, including the steering angle sensor, and clockspring.

you will need a clockspring from a 05+
e63 is the easiest to find
you will also need a wireing harness for the new clockspring along with rewiring the harness. and youll need an airbag
overall its an easy swap. ill be doing the same in the next 2 weeks but installing a 2020 amg wheel on my 04
