I'm not sure what the system is called, but the button on the shifter that is supposed to start the car with the key still in your pocket has been inop since the day I bought the car. I'm about to install a new radio head unit, and while I have the radio out I might as well get into that button issue while I'm in that general area. I have a long ago very vague memory of reading somewhere that there is a fine wore somewhere in the shifter that breaks over time and that's usually the cause of the issue. If anyone can point me in the right direction for a write up on what the cause typically is and how to fix it I'd appreciate it. I tried to do a search but I don't remember what the darned system is called.

I believe its Keyless Go. There are multiple receivers in the car for that system, you can also disable the Keyless Go via software. I would start checking that first (is Keyless enabled in the software?) and then go from there. Behind the cigarette lighter is 1 of the receivers (small black box)

I remember reading a thread on here once about how to repair that wire, that it's usually the cause of the start button on the shifter not working. I can't seem to locate the thread. Do any of you guys know how to dig it up?

Is your key fob original or work with the door locks?

When i bought my car the previous owner included an aftermarket key fob, the buttons would work to lock unlock the door and start the vehicle but none of the keyless go functions would work with it.
Apparently that aftermarket fob didn't have the hardware and not able to be programmed

Everything on the fob works perfectly, it's an original. I just need to find the thread about fixing the wire down at the base mechanism of the shifter and I can't find it.

Ha! I finally found the thread about the shifter mounted start button broken wire. Apparently it's a fairly common issue. Time to tear it apart and dig in.
