E63 M156 Rear Main Seal (RMS), new front Rotors

Having a bunch of work done to my 2009 E63 P30 at Blue Ridge Mercedes in Atlanta.

I have been losing oil from a bad RMS over the past 2+ years, which is irritating from the oil drips as well as the oil blowing onto the exhaust. Having this addressed - see pic below of the bad RMS. Big job - exhaust and driveshaft have to be removed, tranny has to be removed to get to the RMS - $50 part and $3k of labor. Also having an air/oil catch can installed to try and keep oil out of the Intake Manifold. Since my car has 136k miles on it, many of the front suspension joints need replacing. Finally, I am having a pair of front Giro Disc rotors installed and new Porterfield ceramic pads. The rotors are from Frozen Rotors and are cryo treated. Should last a long time. Another expensive service....

$3k for rear main seal at the dealer is crazy. Could have gotten it for half of that at a Indy shop. But I know somtimes it’s hard finding a trustworthy Mercedes Indy shop. I went with Hawk ceramic with my girodisc on the sedan. They feel like OEM in terms of bite. I have portifield on my wagon with brembo rotors and do they bite a bit better.

With the exhaust off, it would have been an ideal time to properly clean the exhaust pipes. That’s what I did when I did my RMS as mine was very coated with oil as well causing it to smoke! I also went on to replace every single rubber bushing in the rear, both Drive Shaft Discs, new rear shocks, Rebuilt Air Springs, 3.06 Differential Swap (from the OEM 2.82). That was back during the CCP Virus. Now I’m in the middle of removing the Dashboard to replace the AC Evaporator, but first have removed the entire interior to properly sound treat the car for my Custom Stereo install! I’ve 95% covered all metal in the back deck, rear seats, wheel wells, floors, doors, firewall with Second Skin Damplifier Pro, melamine foam (in doors over SSDP), Heatshield & Luxury Liner Pro ( in trunk, rear seats, floors, trans tunnel and to be done at the firewall). When I get the Dash out this week, I’ll cover the front end with some Resonix CLD Squares I just ordered, as I’ve gone through 30 sheets of SSDP already! My 2007 E63 has been and has continues to be my pride and joy!

This was among the first things I did during my 1st Phase Build back in 2017-18.

Rebuilt Heads! 1st Phase

Also 1st Phase Build, just removing the Intake to discover how Carbon filled the Intake Runners were which caused me to have the Heads Rebuilt!

2nd Phase-Rear Main Seal

The Tranny obviously had to come out

The Tranny’s Valve case below with its TCU on top. I took it out to Clean the Valve case itself, which was filthy, but then had to remove the Tranny again to have the TCU repaired several months later! One of those coulda shoulda moments!

Here is the Subframe and all of its replaced components (subframe Bushings, Control Arm Bushings, new Torque Arms and its corresponding bushing in the wheel carrier, diff mount bushings)

2nd Phase Built which started with the RMS during CCP Virus!

Current 3rd Phase-Rear Deck after removing the worthless Subwoofer! Just look at that flimsy thing just to the right! I’m installing 5” Surround Speakers where the 2 1/2” one previously were installed located with a JL Box Subwoofer in the trunk, Stereo Integrity 6” in the front doors, Stereo Integrity 3” in Pods to be in the A-Pillars, Focal 6” Coax in rear doors with Dirac Mini DSP>Gladen Amps (5)(4) and an Amazon Special to provide 50 watts to the front Tweeters and a Joying HU and CD Player to be hooked up via Fakra to GPS and radio, Via UBS to TPMS, Front DVR Camera, CD Player as well Rear Parking Cam with Bluetooth!

3rd Phase Build started December 23’ and continues to this day!

This is the Second Skin Damplifier Pro CCF/Vinyl layer cut out, but then installed over the HeatShield (next Pic, which is over the SSDP covering the Metal Floors. All hollow crossbeams are also filled with Thermafiber to dampen the Bell-like sound that happens when you hit them!

This is the Heat Shield prior to my relocating the SS Luxury Liner over top on both the rear seats and the floors.

My ride as it appears currently in my Garage!
