Where to start Das, Star, Xentry

I just picked up an '08 w211 E63, and I'm excited to get to know it. I enjoy doing my own work and figuring out issues even if I've never been down that road before.
This last week I've been trying to research what proper equipment is needed for diag + programing setup for the DIY'er.
Examples of things I'd like to modify would be the suspension height and also the cooling fan mod.

I realize this has been talked about before but I've searched and there is soooo many rabbit holes of info on here and other sites that I feel like I'm going in circles.

Can anyone suggest a proven equipment bundle / software (or a good link to this type of info) that they have faith in?

This setup is super slick, however can you change vehicle factory settings with it? Do you need a multiplexer set up?

Thanks in Advance.
Happy Holidays!

I believe this is being used by a large number of users.

E55 Wagon
I have a C3 Star Diagnosis system laying around that I am willing to sell. Send me a DM if you're interested. I can dig it up and take some photos

Thanks for the reply.

This is for sure a viable option, my only holdback is I would still have to buy all the hardware, PC-Megaplexer-openport + pay for the ninja service. At that point I may as well find the software and learn how to do the work myself.

'99 and '05 E55 AMG
If you do get a STAR system, start the learning process using the simulation mode before you actually attempt to try programming anything in the car.

@GangStar I love it, but I haven't used STAR/Xentry. There are things the Autel cannot do, but so far it has done anything I needed it to do. I was able to buy the MaxiPRO 2nd hand for about a 3rd of the cost. I also have a MBCarsoft 3.0, but I have that lying in the car for emergencies as it's very limited compared to something like an Autel. The MaxiPRO also has a bluetooth dongle, which is a treat to work with compared with a cable

I used it for:
-Disable TPMS (the MaxiPRO can also adopt new TPMS sensors)
-Disable audio components I dont use (like navigation)
-Various codings
-Reset adaptations
-Reset transmission adaptations
-Airmatic calibration
-Troubleshooting broken interior temperature sensors
-Reset sunroof adaptation
-Normalize Trunk Lid
-Troubleshooting various issues

And thanks for the kudos for my build thread, I appreciate it
