Engine diffs between E55K and S/SL/CL55K
Pardon me if this has already been discussed.
I was wondering if anyone knows exactly what accounts for the factory
rated HP difference of 469 vs 493 (in the US) between an E55K and the
S/SL/CL55K ?
From what I've read, the internal engines specs are identical and they run the
same amount of S/C boost.
Car & Driver mentioned exhaust system differences but didn't state exactly
what they were.
Is it something related to the center resonator ?
Is it relatively straight FWD to swap these components out and at least
on paper match the 493 hp spec ?
I also read something about air intake differences.
TIA

Some believe there is a air intake difference, which there is, however...
Many people have dyno'ed their cars only to find that the car actually had closer to 500 hp than 469. Moral of the story? Mercedes most likely understates the HP to make it seem like you get something more for the significant amount more you pay for the S/SL/CL 55. Makes sense since we pay only 85-95k, while they all pay well over 120k.

2003 E55 AMG
All of the AMG cars you mentioned are underrated... However, the SL55 does dyno higher than the E55. It has different exhaust manifolds, different exhaust piping and a different intake pipe (very minimal different on the intake pipe).
