Went to the dealer yesterday, and sat in a new 05' (and learned mine got pushed back 12 days!!) The new console doesn't bother me at all, it looks heinous in photo's but is kinda nice in person. the wood door that slides is well-made and looks as much. It wouldn't surprise me if that wasn't a cost cutting but a cost adding feature (that wood door can't be cheap to make)

You can make a case for the new console looking as good as the old but I'm more interested in how it feels on your arm. The previous style was perfectly comfortable. Any comments on the new?

I thought it was very comfortable, but it did immediately occur to me that my girlfriend wouldn’t be able to use it as there is a fair distance between the crest of the new one and the steering wheel. At 6' 2", my elbow rests right at the crest of the downward slope; anyone smaller and you wouldn't be able to use it as effectively.

On the '04's my elbow rested in the center of the clam-shell console leaveing plenty of room for someone that needed to rest their arm much closer

BTW how does the new phone fit in there? Is it below the cup holders or in a remote location? Have they said when the new phone system with Bluetooth will be available?
