Whow, I am impressed then. I true credit to non-factory supported group of racers! I would imagine that there is a lot of potential "locked away" in many Mercedes engines then. The engine is nothing more than a air pump, so breathing is everything.

Wonder if anyone was done custom built Mercedes engines? There is no question that what Mercedes produces is a good starting block for some truely awesome engines.

For instance, the M119 block in the 500E/E500/SL500/S500, was used in the Sauber C9 and C11 prototype cars in the late 80's and early 90's and won Le Mans in 89 in twin-turbo form putting out a estimated 750 hp in race trim and 850 hp in qualifying. In 89 the C9 won 7 of 8 races, smashing the competition. (Shuey drove the C11 in 91!) These engines lasted the WHOLE season, needing occational teardown for inspection purposes. These cars have clocked some of the fastest speeds at Le Mans even today, the C9 reaching 390 kph or 242 mph and the C11 reaching 400 kph or 249 mph, not bad.

Check this out, http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame...php&carnum=766. And another with more photos, http://www.autodrome-cannes.com/sauber_mercedes.htm, here is a language translator page, http://babelfish.altavista.com/, select french for this page.

What the US needs is more people like this out there working with Mercedes and AMG's motors. Seems there are few shops willing to get inside a Mercedes or rebuild them without charging a arm and a leg for their services!
What a shame! Nothing stings more than wasted potential.

Farhead’s number seems possible based on this Autoweek quote with a SC or a TT, but I thought Mercedes didn’t want to go that route.

“Crowning the lineup will be the ML63 AMG. Planned for introduction at the Frankfurt motor show in September 2005, the ML63 will be one of the first Mercedes models with AMG’s normally aspirated, four-valve 6.3-liter V8 engine. Conceived as a replacement for today’s three-valve 5.4-liter V8, in the ML63 the 6.3-liter is likely to make about 465 hp, say Stuttgart insiders.”

Its actually already happening. I guy I know sent me to a retired MB tech. who now owns his own shop. Thing is, he has the latest STAR diagnostic system at his disposal because he is still deeply connected to the W.I. Simonson dealership in Santa Monica. He told me, that if I was willing to shell out $1,900, he could re-tune my ECU on the system and bring my engine up to 75% output. Note he said "bring it up to" 75%. This is what 75% entails: 80hp gain (to the wheels, NOT the crank) as well as ~80ft lbs of torque. He has performed this operation on many W211's before and has dyno sheets to prove it. He told me that if I didn't like it, he could reverse it back to stock and give me a full refund. I'm just hesitant because of warranty issues...

I see that both of you are from California. This is perfect. Give Shane a call at Al and Ed's hardware in Santa Monica. Tell him that you heard about his guy who does the ECU upgrade for the W211. He'll tell you all there is to know. Good luck!

Thank you! My E55 is still messed up from being rear ended by that 16 year old idiot but it will be back soon and I have a CLS55 on the way so I am really looking forward to learning more about this mod!

MORE CONTROVERSY!

"Traditionally quickly on the way the products of the house are AMG. The developers of the Mercedes Benz Werkstuners turn at present industriously test rounds with the CLS 65 AMG. Like already with the s-class the V12-Motor carries out for 612 HP and catapults the four-door Coupé into the regions of reinrassiger supersports cars. A performance class more deeply will go a CLS 63 AMG on customer catch. It refers its maximally 571 HP of a again developed V8-Kraftwerk with 6,3 litres capacity, which is to replace the proven 5,4-Liter-Achtzylinder in all series (C 55 AMG, E 55 AMG, CLK 55 AMG, SL 55 AMG). Likewise from a new engine the next m-class will profit. At the end of of 2006 takes the SUV as ML 60 AMG of dirt roads and motorways under the wheels. Heart is an eight-cylinder, which lifts 420 HP on the drive shaft. The engine will be used later also in the SLK."

Translation from autobild....

http://autobild.de/aktuell/neuheiten...4df9c29ad21c6a

PS, I think when they refer to C55 being replaced by 63 engine, they probably meant CL55, if the SLK gets a "60", so will the C55....
