Snorkle Inlet
I noticed that the inlets to the snorkle tubes have "doors" blocking direct air entry from the front and only the tops open, if you follow. I say doors because I was able to release a tab at the bottoms (broke one) and just open them back allowing direct air flow.
Chalk it up to new owner giddiness, but the exhaust sound is definitely louder. Faster, I'm not sure, but it felt that way.
Has anyone else done this ? This is an '05

The "doors" are in place to prevent leaves, dirt, etc. from going into your intake snorkel. Rain or small water droplets are ok. I cut mine off a few months ago...I haven't really heard or felt a difference but some top mechanics at BergWerks (an MB only shop) in the Los Angeles Valley told me they always cut theirs off the second they recieve their cars. It enables more of a ram-effect at speed allowing a larger volume of air into your intake at once. Hope this helps

Did the same thing as above and also got the D/S S500 Snorkle Tube to replace the restricted E55 Snorkle Tube and added K&N Filters. It's been crappy weather here so I haven't really gotten on the car since the install.

Ram Effect on a forced induction engine? Suelt air is sucked in around the flaps and they're not the limiting factor. I can sort of buy the snorkel tube kink theory but really - the HP is the same for all these engines and I doubt that the air inlet system is the limiting factor.
