Talking Last SC'd AMG V8

Just got my copy of MT (Jan 05 Issue) and on page 24 = "The CLS55 will be the last new Mercedes with the amazingly successful 5.4 liter supercharged V8. For the next S-Class, AMG is preparing a "TWIN-TURBO" version of the all new 32 valve V8. This clever base engine is modular, its first application being the new 268 horsepower, 24 valve V6in the SLK350. The V8 will get direct fuel injection, and it's the engine to which AMG will apply its twin-turbo muscle. Result? "Over 400kW", says a Benz insider. "That's 536 Horsepower".
Man o' Man, I'm glad my dealer has allready accepted a deposit on the next E AMG for me !!!!!!!!

I thought mercedes said they had no need to follow BMW and continue with a 4 Valve head, when they introduced the 3 valve. Looks like they were wrong.

Mercedes introduced the 3 valve head to meet emission standards. The three valve engine allowed the exhaust gasses to become hotter in a quicker time frame than the 4 valve head. Thus, the catalytic converters were able to ignite quicker to burn off any unburned fuel. I would assume the direct injection is helping them get back to the 4 valve head and still meet emission requirements.

How come every other car company on the planet can build 4 valve motors which are more powerful than MB yet still meet emissions?

Talking New 4 Valve T/T release

The M/T article (Page 24 January 05') says the engine will appear in the AMG new S Class which I think comes out in 2006. It will probably trickle down to the E and SL in late 2006 or early 2005. I also hope AMG upgrades the Suspensions too!!

January issue of Road and Track pg 35, says a new 4 valve normally aspirated 6.3 liter V8 producing approx 500 bhp will be powering the next wave(S-, SL-, CL-, and E )of AMG cars.

We will just have to wait and see.
