Does the 04 E55 Command Play DVD Music?

What does one need to know prior to making a DVD from MP3s?

Do you want to make a DVD-Audio DVD, or a DVD w/ Mp3 files on it. I dont think that the Comand is capable of doing neither, though I could be wrong.

I doubt anyone here makes DVD audios. I have the euro headunit which plays MP3 DVD's. Pretty cool having 1000 songs on one disc.

Yes on a CD. I'll try to burn MP3 files on a DVD this weekend and see if it'll work as well.

Yes, listing the folder, artist and track when in the single CD slot.

I have also had the 5 CD changerplay the MP3 CD. I have read somewhere the a DVD with Mp3's in the single slot plays, but the folder hierarchy is important as the search is really slow. Wonder uf dual layer would work. Doubt it, though.

Thank you very much

Hmm, my understanding is the US headunit has a cd player in it while the Euro headunit has a dvd player in it. So you use your changer to play MP3 cd's as well?

2003 E55 Techtite over Blue Leather.
Does anyone know one way or the other if the Euro headunit is bluetooth capable? If it is, does that mean it will work with any mainstream bluetooth enabled phone? I have seen pics before of the display on the euro command headunit in phone mode showing "bluetooth" being activated.
Any thoughts on this? This may be a great way to circumvent the dependency on Mercedes brand phones.

We'll see what our colleague above gets when he burns to DVD. My stereo install shop said he can adapt the single slot to play DVD movies, so...

U have used my changer to play tagged mp3's even though the manual says it should not do so. I haven't really tested it thoroughly, since I mostly use the Aux jack and my Ipod.

Thank you very much

04 E55
I have an E55 with Command system, build date 02/04.
I have attempted to search the forum on info regarding burning MP3s for
my US Spec HU.
My E55 has the SAT button and the Aux input in the Glovebox.
From what I've read, it seems that my car should be able to decode MP3s
just like the 05s.
From the postings, it seems that people have success with the following
setup -

1) use Nero 6 software
2) ISO9660 format, long filename format (ISO level 2)
3) no multisessions
4) no Joliet format, whatever that is
5) no more than one layer of folders

I have been successful in burning my own CDs in the standard audio
(WAV) format, but so far, no luck when burning my own CD-ROMs in
data format using MP3 files even after following the above guidelines.
If someone with an 04 US spec E-class command system has been
successful in burning and reading CDs with MP3 files,
could they post the exact recipe please ?

SW version
exact settings/switches on the SW when burning

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

2003 US spec comands can be updated (with software from MB) to play MP3s...

2004 US spec comands do not play MP3 files like the way 2005s do...I myself am quite sure though that MBUSA ought to have software updates for those comands to make MP3 playback possible.

2005 US spec comands do play MP3 files...

Euro comands are not bleutooth compatible with any aftermarket phone.

greetingz,
Thanks for the clarification on 04s.
Are MBUSA dealers obligated to update Commands upon customer request
as a sort of "warranty" issue or will I have to pay for this SW Update ?

Try burning it as an "MP3 disc" and not a "data disc."

I have an 04 E55 that plays Mp3 on CDROM in the changer.

I have never used the single disc unit but I thought that I read somewhere that one of the two would play MP3s that were burnt onto a DVD. But did I hear that I should have an aux cable input in the glove box? Is this just a standard mini cable? If so problem solved, I did not know that the IPOD could be used plug and play on an 04.

That depends on the dealership...the discs themselves with which the updates can be performed are less then 10USD from MB...updating the software does not require a technician and takes 2 minutes...1 minute to get the comand to start updating and 1 minute to take the disc out of the comand after the update has been performed...during the update the comand is not in need of anybody watching it.
