Need some help please

Been pretty active on fixing a bunch of thing with my 04E55 here’s the list;

valve stem seals
valve cover gasket (twice bcuz I’m dumb)
radiator fan
spark plugs
wires
coil packs

the problem I’m having now )or been having) is that I keep finding oil around the exhaust manifold bolts and I can’t figure out where is coming from.

could it be the exhaust manifold gaskets it’s driving me nuts!

I know my RMS is leaking a small tiny bit but both sides I keep finding oil around the manifold bolts, the ac compressor, even down to the sway bar.

Any point in the right direction as to where to
start looking would be greatly appreciated.

2004 E55 253k miles

Thank you All
AL
Anyone know the part number for this?

Oil cooler gasket
Oil pressure test port gasket, cheap and not hard to do. But you need like a giant 45mm (don't quote me on the size) socket to remove the oil cooler.

Any advice on the valve stem seal job? What tools did you use? Any tricks? Mine is at 213k miles and badly needs them. Sometimes loves to fog the car behind me after I go WOT.

Oil cooler gasket? I'm seeing the oil on both sides of the manifold though its weird looks like its coming from the top down

Honestly I would've done the seals myself but have no time so I had a friend of mine whos been an MB tech for 30 years do it for me. Left him the car for 2 days said take your time and he had it done on day 2 but that's along with plugs wires and coil. Idk where you're located but if you're in Orange County CA I can link you up with him and it would be about $1300 for labor parts would run you MAYBE $130

Beats having to spend $3000k plus anywhere else and thats on the low side lol

The oil cooler is on top. It's what the oil filter gets installed into. It's at the very top and leaks oil all over the front of the motor, down directly onto the AC compressor as in your picture.

I tend to DIY, but I'm also on the other side of the country

That is definitely not leaking i replaced that a few months ago, going to my mechanic later today after work to have him take a look and also look at my brakes. they're getting pretty hot and smoking

I cleaned them up yesterday and installed new rotors as they old ones were scorched and had some shiny spots. now it seems like I need to replace the pads even though they're still newish but debating either akebono or centrik posi quiet

the oil pressure test port is right below the oil cooler, it fails all the time too, and leaks a ton of oil down the front of the motor above the AC compressor, belt tensioner, down onto the crank pulley

UPDATE:

No oil anywhere else but the exhaust manifold bolts, engine bay is dry. I am at a total loss of ideas.

anyone know if there is an oil galley that runs along the exhaust manifold bolts and maybe from the pressure oil is making its way out from there?

No, they are blind holes. You really need to clean everything real good and then go fro there checking constantly.

this is the only way to deal with a leak. Clean your engine, top to bottom and then monitor it to see where the oil comes from top to bottom.

Op, no offense here, but you should clean the engine yourself and get yourself familiar with it vs asking us blindly….

if you really do have oil coming out of your exhaust manifold, you might wanna talk to that 30 year Mercedes tech about his valve seal job… and one might wonder why he didn’t do all of the work so that you’re not in the situation. Like, if you need to farm out cleaning the engine, why are you even working on any diagnostics??

truly here to help, but the first rule of any leak is to clean it and watch if it comes back or where it comes back from… everything else is speculation

Well if you read my previous post, valve seals were done last week and some of us dont have the time to do things our self as i work 12 hours a day lol so how about we focus on the topic. Engine is going to be steam cleaned tomorrow once my steamer arrives, UV leak detector kit arrived this morning so I'll know soon enough

thanks for the info and help

Make sure eveything is dry before you fire it up and for sure have him STAY AWAY from the driver side FUSE BOX/PCM
Also a warm engine will dry out faster so do that before he gets there.

Oh definitely going to make sure he goes in with just a spray bottle and toothbrush lol plus I’ll be steaming it and using compressed air to dry it while it’s warm
