Reprogramming a used remote for another cls
I have a 2007 cls550 w219 with keyless go, remote is a 4 button with a round panic button. Can I have the dealer reprogram a used key fob from a 2007 w211 to work with my vehicle? Assuming the remote models are exactly the same.
Anyone have experience with this?

New key from the dealer; expect 2-4 days to receive it. Bring proof of ownership to the dealership. Do you want a new metal door key along with the key fob? Add $80-$100.
It is possible to find a used key fob and transfer the integrated circuit that contains your vehicle's VIN to the replacement key fob. That has been done and works.
Swapping EEPROMS is only useful if you have a dead or dying original key. And even then it would have to be an identical KLG key. They are very different inside but look the same outside.
Best option is a dealer for a 2nd KLG key. Locksmiths in big cities can make keys using info pulled from an EIS, but this frequently requires removing EIS. And I genuinely don’t know if they can create a new KLG key or just a regular one.
Wish I could beat the previous owner. It looks like he slid a piece of thick paper inside, between the batteries & fob housing. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get the battery try to slide out. I had to use a Dremel & cut the back plate off the fob just to get access.

My oem fob worked but the buttons weren't always responsive. I'd have to mash the button or squeeze the fob housing to get it to work. Not sure if the buttons were worn or battery wasn't making solid connection. The new fob shell came with a new battery tray & key blank so it worked out perfectly.
