W211 trunk won't open - emergency unlock

I recommend one read the emergency unlock/lock procedures in the owner's manual. In case you don't have an owner's manual or the manual is locked in the trunk, procedure for the trunk is posted below.
Received error message on instrument cluster "trunk open" except it wasn't. Trunk would not open with handle but did open using driver door switch. Push button switch on trunk would not work so I used the driver door switch to close trunk. Took two attempts for the error message to go away. Next morning opened trunk with the handle and closed with interior trunk switch. When it closed, I thought, "That didn't sound right.". Yep, trunk would not open using the handle, key fob, or driver door switch. I could hear the mechanism inside the trunk but no joy opening. After reading the manual (shhh! Don't tell anyone!) I inserted the mechanical key, rotated it to the 11 o'clock position, and used the handle to release the mechanism. This apparently reset the latch as the trunk has worked normally since.
Reading the manual had another benefit; I have owned this car for 11 years and finally learned there is a rubber-covered push button switch on the right of the trunk handle that locks the car. No need to use the key fob or open the trunk to use the "lock and close" button on the trunk lid.
Will wonders never cease...
