When I bought my X50, I didn't even read or test any of the others. For some odd reason, I wanted to buy a bel since I always used them about 10 years ago. When I came into the dealer that sold mine, he only sold the X50 and said it was better. I said give me that one then. and that was it. I'm very happy with mine, but haven't really used it much. I mostly use it when I go on road trips. I don't use it in city. I just get annoyed with it hangin on my windshield and the alerts.

If you guys want a great explanation on how Radar and Laser work, and how radar and laser jamming work check out this thread on the z06 forum. Read the responses by RocketSled. Very informative.

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
All I can say is this...

Just returned from almost 1500 miles up and down I 95. 80-90 steady in a new 545i. THREE people just in front of me were stopped, all seemed to be with the instant/POP mode. I cruised on by, easily, while using the V1. Yes, much easier to live with in the L mode. Really nice product. And there's no speed set in stone for any cop to cut you a break. Just depends on the circumstances (and revenue needed at the time...).

This test was last summer. They just finished their '05 test and will be posting results in mid July.

Pretty interesting what they say about dark cars vs. light colored cars and laser.

A light colored, taupe, Buick was an easy target for the laser gun. The Kustom Pro III laser got a target reading on the Buick on average at 1,640 feet. The dark blue Dodge was a more difficult target averaging a target reading at 1,256 feet, a target reduction distance of 24%.

I am waiting until the new test results before purchasing a radar detector. I just hope the test the Escort Solo. Being from VA, I need a solution that is easily concealable. I will probably just hardwire which ever detector I buy.

I have V1 in the mirror and K40 jammer in the grill and drive into VA & DC everyday!

Have posted many pictures of my install on other threads (just do a radar install or V1 search). I sent the car up to NY and had AI Design do the install since I feel they do some of the best custom work in the US. The whole display it etched into my stock mirror and the jammer is tied into the same display. Very clean but high end install that was worth every penny. All the local MB dealers have started referring business to them becasue it is so high end and stealth. The SLR that was sold at Euro was sent to them for the install.

I should be getting a kick back for all these orders

If you can not find old pictures let me know.

The arrows...

I've had two Valentine Ones since the first month they came on the market. I've never dealt with a better company regarding customer service. My units have been upgraded at least three times, usually for around $150 each. On one of these "upgrades" they just gave me brand new units. This is a very good way to guarantee customer loyalty.

That being said, I wouldn't use any unit unless I felt it was the best I could obtain. For me the V1 is unequalled because of it's display. The ability to pinpoint the number and location of radar sources is something I could never live without. I live in an area that is full of speed traps, but the Highway Patrol is pretty unpredictable in terms of how, where, and when they set up the "cash registers". I get multiple alarms very frequently, and having the arrows lets you know there's another cop waiting just past the first.

Furthermore, the road to my house is also an entrance/exit route for Sears Point/Infineon Raceway. Anytime there's an event they double patrols on this road. I can't begin to count the number of times I've been flying down this road in a group of cars, get an alert on the V1, and back off the throttle, only to watch someone else get nailed. Is the V1 hypersensitive? Yes. If you are serious about this it is extremely easy to interpret the signals, distinguish the false alarms, and press the mute key. The difference between radar and a false alarm is easy to distinguish with use. I'd much rather have too much information than too little...

Mike Valentine is also an enthusiast who drives a Carrera GT; that's a pretty decent product development mule, eh? Any job where you can make a Carrera GT tax deductible is OK by me...

Last night....making a late night run (worked super late) to Wal-mart for some office supplies. First time in over a year my laser went off. Course it was a few hundred feet from him.....guess it's true, by the time you hear the laser...you're gone. Guess V1 is better, but can't be like the radar detection. Anyone ever pick up a cop Lasering someone else up the road???

Very rarely, only in heavy traffic.

Best bet is to get a Lidatek or similar

I also have the V1, the thing is amazing, it gives pleanty of warning on everything except POP. If you are the only car on the road and the cop is sneaky your S O L. I have had mine for a while, done the upgrades and never got caught, I usually drive around 90-100 if I'm on the interstate. I had a texas state trooper POP me on a Sunday morning. I was the only car on the road and he was hiding under a tree, on the other side of a hill. Sneaky Sneaky... He got me for 89 in a 70, I managed to slow down a couple mph. Then the guy was giving me crap about driving a MB. WHAT A SNEAKY ****

Latest V1 has POP. When I turn mine on, you see POP when it is self-testing.
