(W211)E55 shifter buttons help needed!!

Replaced an original steering wheel with the one from MP Designs. The MP steering wheel really makes a difference. However, after swapping the shifter buttons, and connecting everything back, the down shift button does not work, only the up shift does. Took everything off, and inspected the wires, the button, and connectors to make sure I did not jam anything, everything checked out OK.

Anybody know what could be happeing? Or how I could fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

Did you make sure that you didn't cross-wire anything?

Will post a picture late on today. No question the best purchase I've made for my E55. Actually the folding mirrors I got from Steve are also very cool!

Well I took the wheel apart and the wiring looked fine. The connectors are such that its not possible to cross the wires. And wiring is color coded. Whats strange is the up shift works, but down shift does not. Its hard for me to believe that the button it self is bad, or is blown.

The biggest problem I have now is that MB does not sell these shifters individually. MB says I need to buy a new steering wheel. So, I am in real trouble, and out of ideas as to what I should do.

Is there any way of testing the button?
Hook it up to a LED light, instead of the actual shift module…do the same to the UP shift button also.

Had the exact same problem with my install. Never could figure out how to fix. Original wheel was at installer, so switched back to factory wheel. Good luck.

Yeah, but swithcing back to the factory wheel does not solve the problem. The wheel is totaly seperate from the shifters and wiring. Are you saying that when you installed the factory wheel back everything went back to normal? Starange. Makes no sense to me.

That is exactly what happened. Told them to switch back to original wheel and the downshift switch worked just fine. They offered to order new wheel and try again, but given that no one could figure out the bug, I decided to pass. Strange but true. Out.
