So much for running flat out on the Salt Flats...

Having ECU modded today and was so excited to finally run er flat out on the Bonneville Salt Flats....then I find out that they have 2 clubs....130 and 150 MPH club. The 150+ club requires you to have full roll cage..blah blah blah....

Guess I am going to have to be in the 130 club where top speed is 140 or you are kicked out.

heh..heh...was thinking of doing a one time 170 run and just getting kicked out "oh ONE forty...I thought you said TWO forty" sorry bout that.

Will shoot video later this year.

Here is the link if you ever wondered...

Sounds kinda lame. Especially when the w211k can see 150+ on the straight at most race tracks.

Hey seriously...what are these things really capable of without limiter???

We always get those videos of 300Kmh....anyone MPH guys get er up to the limits. Honestly, I just don't know if I would have the guts to take her up to the edge. I know a few guys have got it up to the limiter (round 155)....anyone ever been nuts enough to go faster.

Who tuned your ECU? And how different it is now? Tell us about it! Did you do the ECU only or with the pulley?

Having Speedtuningusa.com tune it today...will have it back tomorrow. Just a one man shop in Maryland, but the guy is SUPER nice and has that German accent that makes me feel comfortable for some strange reason.

I ran some runs with my Gtech for times before and will run some with it tomorrow and then post up the results.

This is the cheaper mod guy that has been getting some good reviews. I bet it is not as awesome as the Kleeman or Renntech mods, but it was 349$....and ya never know. Mod takes off limiter etc....

Trying to get my nerve up to void warranty and go pulley.....maybe just wait till new 55 comes out and hope it is pushing 600hp...then I won't even worry bout it.

Will post when I have results....let's hope it's not slower eh??

158 for me. Just to worried about cops and other traffic (even though the road I "use" was completely empty). It's amazing (to me anyway) the difference between say 130 and 150. Seems like night and day. Things are getting thrown into your field of view VERY quickly. The only way to do it "safely" is to get two guys on cell via conference call and have them each park at a certain distance watching for cops and traffic.

cte430 is right about the difference in speed sensation between 130 and 150+. It sounds like you might be fairly new to running at these speeds so I'd actually recommend doing some track days with a driving club instructor to learn how to drive fast safely and get used to the higher speeds.

I have no idea what the salt flats would feel like or how this affects top speeds. The w211k on a paved surface should easily reach 160+ or so in a mile. (I'm assuming the rev limiter is off.) I once saw 186 in my Porsche 993tt within a mile so I would think the e55 could do the same. I'll bet the guys on this forum with engine kits could see 200 no problem. Make sure your suspension is at its stiffest setting! I know 150+ on the straight is fairly routine for most road courses in cars with this level of performance and most straights are a little longer than 1/4 mile.

I have a video of a board member here getting up to 149 miles in 1 mile in his W210 E55. So in the W211 is no problem at all.

Yes, the W211 shouldn't have a problem...except for the limiter.

That was me on a W210 E55 149.38 mph in 1 mile and it took 34.5 seconds...and I have a certificate to it
That was done at the runway of an airport in Goliad, Texas, october 2 years ago.
That day I say a Lingenfelter corvette reach 192 mph and a Hayabusa 210 mph (the bike with NOS)

My friend hitting 213mph here in Chicago on the 355 South highway in a little over a standing mile, about 250 feet over. Video says 209, but that was a slightly incorrect calculation corrected after it was made.

Car is a '96 Viper GTS, supercharged.

I got mine up to 133mph in significantly less than half a mile. a mile's longer than you think.

The guy at the Salt Flats and I have been emailing back and forth and have smoothed things over...he actually is a nice guy.

Here's what I learned....the Salt Flats feel little like ice at high speeds, the salt makes the car swivel and slide around and unless you have killer downforce, you are going to freak when she starts moving around. He mentioned that the wider the tires, the worse you do....over 10 inch tires are just forbidden.

It was a fun experience learning about Bonneville, but I think I'm gonna take a pass on that pup. That East Coast thing Beowolf was talking about seems cool, just a few thousand miles outside my neighborhood.....oh well, I'll just wait for the track to open and be thankful.

Next mission.....to get video of me doing a burnout or high speed pass down the famous Monument Valley road..(maybe not burnout...it is a National treasure)...just few hours South of here.

Gonna be great video.

Thanks for all the input.

I had heard that as well. Ran a bike there a few years back but never a car, and absolutely scared the ***** out of me when she broke loose at about 170 MPH!! Really tough for unstreamlined bikes to break the 200 MPH barrier for that reason, traction is not good. Freakin' salt is baaaaaaaad as well.

Jakpro1,

You could always tryout these high speed, high thrill events;

Big Bend Open Road Race - Course is 59 miles long!- April 20-23rd, Click here for Link,

or
Silver State Classic - Course is 90 miles long! - May 12-15, Click here for link

The Big Bend event is supposed to offer more thrills due to more turns at the end of the course.
