The engine of the BMW M5 is designed for RON 98 fuel. Use of RON 95 or 91 fuel reduces engine output and increases fuel consumption.

i think ron (the octane #) fuel is for non-us cars and the equation to us fuel for us cars is a different equation???

The US uses average of MON and RON (or something along those lines) for its octane rating so the 98RON is probably close to what 93 octane is in the US. All M cars are best on PULP so this shouldn't be new news.

reggid is correct, we use the (R+M)/2 method, also known as PON. European octane uses a different rating system but when converted their octane is roughly what we have.
