5.5 Biturbo engine on E63 ?
Hey guys... I'm wondering if the E63 AMG will have an engine update for the 2011 model.
It is official that the S63 AMG will get the new V8 5.5L Turbo for model 2011 which is supposed to sell by summer.
Is their any info about this engine getting in the E class..if yes when ?
I expect that this new engine will replace the 6.2 L engine in all benz classes.

This has been discussed a lot already. Check several of the many threads here. Bottom line is nobody knows the exact release date to fit the motors in various models. But the W212 will have to compete with the new F10 TT M5.
Whether it's 2011 or 2012 is anybody's guess at this point in time.

The S class gets the new motor in September (which means they start showing up in August), in the 2011 model. I have heard that they are going to do with the E what they just did with the SL. The 2009 SL's were carried over until March, 2010, when the 2011 SL was released. There was no 2010 SL. Using the same formula, you might expect the 2010 E, with the 6.3 motor, to carry over to Early 2011 and then the 2012 E, with the 5.5TT will be released.
With the improved performance, weight and gas mileage, I just don't see MB waiting a year to release the E with the new motor. In addition, who is going to buy an E63, when they know the new motor is just around the corner?!

It boggles my mind what a monster super sedan that car could be with the new engine, especially with performance package, considering how good the current version is.
It would absolutely kill any 65 model,at any speed,in any enviroment....

I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't really want the TT5.5. In fact, the reason I'm on this forum/considering the E63 is that I don't want a TT car. I will be buying/ordering around December '09 or January '10. I talked to a pretty informed person/dealer here in Houston who has heard that the 5.5TT will be for 2012 in the E. Also, MB has already announced that the 2011 E63 wagon will be coming to the US with the current engine... So, reading between the lines, I'd say this dealer is right... I have a son who will be driving at year's end, so I'll be rotating cars down, thus my need. The sole reason I am leaning toward the E63 is due to natural aspiration. This is the reason I am not waiting/considering the M5. In Texas, we don't take too kindly to turbos or govt. healthcare. Gas goes to 3 or 4 per gallon???--more for me

Most on this forum simply want to modify their cars, and forced induction does make for easier/cheaper modifying & faster cars than N/A. I still like N/A though; no replacement for displacement. I also like the 211 E63's interior quality compared to the new 212 and I'm sure the turbo 212 will maintain the average interior (although I hope not).
Also it seems that only a minuscule percentage of MBZ owners decide to modify and drop their cars, in spite of the overwhelming belief on this board that modding & lowering the car is a virtual necessity.
N/A ftw.

I wish they would change the badging on the 55 cars. A 5.5 liter BiTurbo V8 should not be badged/called a 63, imho. That E63(55) is in my sights & i'll definitely change the badges when i get it.

I dont see the purpose of keeping the numbers if it doesnt reflect the engine displacement. So IMO they should just drop the numbers and call it "E-AMG"
#23
Exactly my point, but it seems that AMG-Mercedes doesn't see it that way. That's evidenced by the S & CLS 63's that have the 5.5 BiTurbo.

How many of you who bought a 2010-2011 W212 E63 feel "cheated?" It also sounds like some more interior changes again, too.
I personally like the M156 engine a lot but I also have the last of the W211 versions (2009) and it also won't get the same resale value concerns since it's the older body style (it's already worthless, LOL) It's going to be harder to sell a W212 with the older motor I'm guessing (?)
Throttle control is more precise with the NA M156 but in the big E Class it probably doesn't really mean that much. It makes more sense in the lighter and more nimble C63 which is partly why AMG is keeping it in the C for now.
