Hi,

Im interested in your track experience with the E63. i've been thinking of brining it to my next track day instead of my GT3.
How did you find it at the track..is it worth it, or should I not even bother.

Thanks in advance.

It's amazingly capable on the track for something so big. I also drove it in s+, and the transmission was almost clairvoyant in it's reactions. It was caught out only a couple of times. One thing, though, you need to turn off the stability system: the sport setting is useless on the track. It comes on all the time. The car, not surprisingly, felt very satisfying through fast corners. On tight stuff, you can feel the bulk, but the car is pretty neutral and there is little understeer. In fact, I dare say, it has less understeer than my scuderia (although being definitely slower). Having said all the above, after some time, I started missing the light feel of the scud and the higher spinning engine. It's fun for occasional track outing, but It's not gonna replace your gt3.

Hope that helps.

Yes it helps a lot.

Thanks,

R

BTW does your E63 have the sport package or not?
Mine doesn't, except I do have the 19" wheels on..wondering if that would make a difference on the track.

Yes, I do have the performance package. I am pretty sure the LSD helps quite a bit.

I just got new 2010 E63 black /black today. And noticed the same problems with jerky transmission. Built date was November 2009. Any updates if anyone solved this problem?... So far I see either brake in or software update . It just so weird for an expensive car to behave like that. I had C32, S55 and both didn't have such problems. Could it be the first batch of cars or build date of my car 11/2009 , had such problems?

Updates to jery tranny...

It would be good to hear from late 2010 and 2011 E63 owners regarding the jerky tranny issue.

Have any of the early 2010 problems been rectified with more driving?

Are late 2010 and 2011 owners experience similar issues?

I assume the 2012 is different due to the different engine specs...

Jerky transmission problem is "officially" solved!
After suffering for a year, I finally can drive and enjoy the car.
Thanks to Sprintbooster. It is absolutely a MUST for E63. It transformed the way my car drives. I thought I would waste my time but decided to give it a try since it is like $329 only.

The way it works is changes the delayed throttle from gas pedal. Technically it is just that and doesn't have to do anything with the transmission. But somehow overall it feels like transmission problem is gone. Maybe on top of the way MCT works it was also due to delayed throttle.

I, too, installed a Sprintbooster on my 2010 E63. The "jerkyness" has been reduced by about 75%, but not eliminated, in my opinion

darklord 11-27-2011 10:08 PM

What is a sprint booster? And did you buy it specifically for the tranny issue or for performance )or both?

NL007 11-28-2011 12:28 AM

Yes, what is it, where would one get it and have it installed, and any negatives?

AMG E63 Jerky Tranny

I have been conversing with VladSF regarding the SprintBooster fix. I am very intrigued.

My problems are not just throttle lag, it seems to me that the MCT tranny is not moving fast enough out of neutral and the Jerk is caused when it finally does and the engine revs are already up. "Thump" into gear, heads snaps back, passengers look at you like "What are you, some new amateur driver?"

Most annoying is from a dead - prolonged stop, but it also does it between 1st and 2nd sometimes, regardless if in "C" or S+ modes. I have noticed it most while the engine is not yet at full temp, but have seen it a few times with engine at full temp.

I bought mine in the spring of 2010, loaded except no driver convenience or carbon fiber stuff.

The other thought I have regarding the transmission is whether or not an ECU flash would help. I have read posts by both OEM tuning and ECU tuning group that thier flashes help with this. Does anyone have any experience with either of the flashes?

I can't say with certainity......I'm pretty used to the way the car can throw
me around a bit, and I do feel the different jerky sensations, in the different modes, but figured it was just how the car responds:nix:
there is more fuel being used when the engine is cool eh? maybe slower, cool temp driving is from that.
my build is from July of this year, delivered in August.....
I'd have to say my favorite jerky mode is amg button with the sport style on too

That was the first the dealer checked, at least I think that is what they referred to as the "latest programming updates". In my business we update office automation equipment, folder/inserters, printers and mailing systems by "Flashing" new firmware. The dealers call it programming. ECU, I assume you mean "Electronic Control Unit"? There are probably over a 100 control modules in this car, The fact that they all seem to get along with each other pretty well is what made a MBZ believer from a BM Trouble You owner.:smash:

Does anybody here have a w212 e63 with the sprintbooster AND a ecu tune????
i heard bad things so far but im still interested for some f'd up reason lol
thanks in advance!

My advice may come at face value, but I test drove a new 2011 yesterday, I noticed a good jerk from 1rst to second if I let off the gas between shifts, If I had my foot slightly on the gas and shifted, it wasn't all that jerky, mainly because I'm guessing (didn't ask) its not a dual clutch or even single clutch trans, torque converter?

Granted im sure everyone here has tried different driving styles to remedy jerks

6.2AMG 04-04-2012 11:30 AM

so are the pretty apparent jerks between all gears normal???

E-SICKTY3 04-08-2012 06:23 AM

I have 2011 E63 and I do feel the jerky transmission during a stop-n-go and also low rpms at low gears (1 & 2).

All I did to avoid the jerky transmission was doing a couple of hard/fast pulls on either C/S mode from a stop. Also I find that doing hard runs on the car helps reduce the jerky transmission issue. I just guess that our W212 E63 are meant to be driven hard and fast!:v:
:boink:

Like Vic had reminded us in another thread, driving hard to re-program the ecu definitely helps. I would rather not have an ecu that constantly tries to learn and guess my driving habit. I hope I can deactivate the ecu's "learning."

SDE63 04-23-2012 04:37 PM

We need more people to complain to MBZ about E63 Jerk issue

Interesting... There is some electronic "Gremlin" in the works that is keeping this "refined Beast" of a car reaching 100% of its potential.

Unfortunately, not enough E63 owners are complaining to their service dept or to the National customer service center. Both have told me I am the only one.

Off Idle Tranny Stumble

I just took delivery of a 2010 E63 with 30K miles. Mine also has a stumble off idle in first gear. I feel like it is a combination of the way the car is cammed and the wet clutch pack. Seems like everyone's car does it.

Respectfully I believe that since it is an "Intermittent" problem, I don't think it is mechanical in nature/cause.

Do check out the Sprintbooster, it does nulify about 50% of the problems, imo:y

You may "feel" it is intermittent but it is a timing thing just like driving a powerful manual stick car when missing clutch release point by a little at low speed. If you go drive a manual M5 and purposely messing around clutch at low speed, you will know that car will act as it has this "intermittent" problem.

Even though E63's wet clutch is computer controlled, it is still quite easily to get jerky if slowing the car right before it stop then hit gas at very low speed (like at stop sign and speed up without fully stop).

I have few friends have this car. Almost all of them have the same experiences except for only one who bought for wife and she drive only under C which never uses 1st gear.

My guess is that it can be fixed if MB's engineer soften the timing on clutch control; however, the downside will be slower gear changing which most of aggressive E63 owners won't like that..........manual stick is kind of a solution but MB won't offer due to too low a demand.

Sorry but I flat disagree with you. I have driven high performance sports cars for over 20 years. 10 years with Acura NSX. Lot of fun to do what you describe to "Jerk" a passenger back and forth while in low gear using the torque. had a blast with me kids doing this on occasion.

I have extensive experience in Electro-Mechanical systems. This, I believe is electronic. There are so many different computer modules running hundreds of programs. This is an electric hiccup

For me the problem manifests itself the worst accellerating from EXTENDED FULL STOP, engine revs, then after a half second or so, clutch engages. It also does it between 1st and 2nd and to a lesser extent 2nd to 3rd, each progression not as bad, even when the car is at full operating temp. Also many have concurred with me that the problem goes away after hard driving.
