actually i could not get distronic to work when i had esc in sport
i cant figure out how to get CC to work independent of the distance setting, it always wants to have a known distance between the next car

Completely right. This is good for long term use. It is totally fine. All of these motors are hard bench tested before they ever make it into a car. Breaking them in is silly (except for rpm variation for the seals).
I see your points and after much research I see there are people on both sides of the coin. Since this is my M.O.; Ill just continue. The engine is bulletproof and almost all warranty claims will arise from parts attached to engine and not the engine itself. I had rather have my engine and the associated parts used to the way I drive from day one... rather hard.
Do some research on hard break ins by race engineers and race car drivers, it might enlighten you. But either way you will be safe IMHO. You will have a warranty claim here and there but it wont be from the block.

yup does not seem to work in anything but C mode.. probably the Firware developer could not write the proper code.
On the steering wheel...
hold down "OK", the "BACK SPACE" from the left side of the wheel and the right hand side "phone" button all together for about ~5 seconds...
In the new factory menu that pops up turn on Dyno mode... I believe you are actually in full ESC off mode at that point

distronic will work in ESC on mode in all the diff tranny settings, C, S, etc
just not if i put the esc to sport
i thought u can get complete esc off just by holding it down?
whats interesting is how sensitive lane tracking is,
i hate to use indicator when no one is arouind, but this is makeing me do so

I leave switched-ESC on w/ any vehicle, lest my better half try to make a run down to the corner and end up on the roof. Auto-cancel setups that have to be disabled manually each time the ignition is cycled - well then I'll play with it. Normal DD purposes though, ESC=on.
