ESC OFF!!! Who drives this way daily!??
I was just reading up the manual and it says ESC off basically removes almost all the electronic nannies in the car. Im wondering how safe it is to drive daily and in turns. But the manual says it also allows for full TQ and that got me thinking... how much TQ is being pulled back by ESC?
When I had my M6 and would drive in S6 (all controls off); you had to be careful or you could become a clown in a rodeo getting spun!!
How do the few members of the W212 E63 club drive their cars? Currently with less than 100 miles, I run S+ and double lights (fully stiff) for the shocks and ESC on. Driving home from the dealer was fun even in OC traffic and I hit speeds close to 125mph at times (when the road opened up). The car felt very planted even in big turns, even moreso than my M3 and that made me very happy.

I wont ... never broke in my AMG's (2 55's and a 65) this way or my 4 BMW M's... I have always done the hard break in method: short quick bursts up and down the RPM range. I will drive at variable speeds as much as possible to stretch the seals. I have found that my cars end up being stronger and more reliable.

E 63,E55 (gone) E46 ///M ,B5 stage 3 S4 ,E36 ///M , 03 EVO (800 WHP)
vic i have own both the E36 and E46 ///M also a B5 s4 and a 211 e55 and none of them felt as safe to drive as this animal, also i drive my car often with it off but it can get wild sometimes and i usually make it happen myself ... one of the easier car to control for me while drifting ....

Only on the track. Sport on the street. The car can really go, if you provoke it. It's a lot of fun and quite catchable, but one mistake on the street...

Don't you only keep cars for 12-18 months? That isn't really a good indicator of long term. If I was going to trade in that often, I wouldn't follow in break in either. But I plan to keep my new E63 for 4-5 years and hence, I am sticking to what the warning sticker on the left hand side of my windshield said - under 85MPH and under 4500 RPM for 1K miles. I figure the guys who made the beast know best.
On a side note, I love what you to do your cars. They all look amazing.

Do some research on hard break ins by race engineers and race car drivers, it might enlighten you. But either way you will be safe IMHO. You will have a warranty claim here and there but it wont be from the block.

I see your points and after much research I see there are people on both sides of the coin. Since this is my M.O.; Ill just continue. The engine is bulletproof and almost all warranty claims will arise from parts attached to engine and not the engine itself. I had rather have my engine and the associated parts used to the way I drive from day one... rather hard.

Not that it matters to most, but driving in that mode will probably eat through some tires in a little over 3k miles...at least that is what happened to one of my clients and his C63...2500 miles later he was in for back tires (didn't complain though b/c he knew he drove it hard).

I drive the C in sports mode with ESC off, but when I drive the E I just do S+ with ESC on because it's more of a cruise, take the wifey out on the weekend car.
and like others have said, you do not want to drive this thing in the rain with ESC off.

How off is ESC off?
I guess Dyno mode is really off but what is ESC off like? (Still in purchase negotiation.) Is it ever increasing slip angles from ESC ON to Sport to OFF?
Thanks.
Thanks.

ESC is still on on my car and when im in Dyno car is raw but if you break heavy it will lock and you will slide =D happened to me at 120 flat spots on tires SUCK! but when you dont turn it off it rubs the power down.

Ever since I got the car I have been driving it with ESC Sport (esc off) and you can tell the difference in TQ and traction. If you want to run from a dig, keep ESC on but for dry rollers its the only way.
I only wish I knew how much TQ is being pulled back with it on. Im in such a habit to push the AMG button (Sport Plus, suspension on 2) and hitting the ESC off button, that I have done it several times while it was raining. I need to remember that its not the safest setting when in the wet.

it's really not worth driving with it off. you never know what'll happen.
i've read so many posts over the years about people getting in the habit of keeping their traction control off and losing it.
all it takes is a split second.

Since it's hard winter in Europe I haven't had time to play with ESC off yet but what I found in my previous C63 was that the optional LSD helped a lot in terms of controlling the car when everything was off.
Played around in a friends C63 without the LSD and in turns with a heavy foot I would have the inner tire spin first and when pushed would jerk into massive over steer. I never had that feeling with my LSD equipped C63. Sure you had to be careful but the slides and back end coming out was way more controlled.
Going for a Kleemann tune and downpipes as soon as the weather breaks. Can't wait to see how she behaves compared to the C63.
