If it were me, I'd just take the mufflers off, and leave the cats and resonator. I've experienced that setup on both my old Mustang GT (whatever anyone's thoughts on Mustangs are, I think it's widely accepted that pretty much any V8 variants are the best sounding cars on the road) which sounded out of control, and my friends old S500. Sounds deeper than any other setup, and the cats and resonator keep it relatively clean sounding.
Anyway, that was my weird little experiment. Performance wise, we both noticed a loss of Torque and horrendous Gas Mileage. I'm no expert, but I'll wager taking the resonator and a set of cats off will probably lose some down low as well, especially on a high-ish revving 4V V8 like the 6.2.

Do you have a W211 or W212?
Edit: I just saw your sig.. W211- different exhaust set up no??

They were worried about bending the pipes from the manifolds too much--- he didnt want to be responsible for snapping anything. He checked the flexibility of the pipes and said there was not that much play.

My guy was willing to straight pipe the cats but that would cause a loss in power.

So whats the final outcome? I want to do this ASAP. I think I'm gonna stop by the shop next week. Guys anyone who did the setup, can they please pm me with details. I want the job to be done right so I'm going to watch them put the exhaust together.

Look how nicely done the evosport exhaust is done

I think why it feels like you would loose power because there is less back pressure because of the straight pipe. The X pipe creates more back pressure which gives you more low end torque. The straight pipe would give you more top end power.

with the secondary cats deleted give it about a week and SHE will be louder all the way through but not loud enough to become annoying in the cabin.. its only at WOT that shell get LOUD.. but thats a good thing

Hi guys !!Just joined the forum! Hows everyone keeping? Im from South Africa & drive a 2007 w211 E63. With regards to the exhaust discussion, i felt the car was not loud enough , so i contacted Sportech SA , a Reputable tuning company, told them i want more power, more sound & not have any issues with motorplan/warranty, they suggested opening up the secondary cats on the factory welds and removing the insides. same with the baffles in the rear mufflers. So the exhaust looks OEM when its in for service, but basically more free flow. They quoted me an 11 k/w power gain. ( 14.7 hp ). any one tried it?

SuperSprint is going to be dropping a FULL Exhaust for the W212 E63 at the end of this month. This system should be LEGIT! I cant wait!

Soo pricey tho for Supersprint exhaust pipes and mufflers. I found out about Pepe's new muffler place in LA. Might just take my car to get custom setup. Replace secondary cat and resonator with 3inch X-pipe to OEM mufflers. Anyone know if Eisenmann will make a RACE muffler for the W212 E63?

Thanks for the info guys. I am also interested in a sound upgrade without doing anything drastic or reducing the power.
Vic or any other w212 owner that has done this resonator removal + sec cat to xpipe conversion, would there be any chance you can post a picture of how the car looks from underneath now?
Thanks a lot!
