Shifter Console Removal - HELP!!
Can anyone please give me some guidance as to how to remove the shifter console and ash tray lid from the W212 E63? It is the shinny metal portion of the included pic (both sides and the ashtray cover)
Why you ask??
I put a small scratch on the metal. I tried to "fix" it by lightly applying rubbing compound to it and made it worse.![crazy](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/crazy.gif)
Called the dealer for a replacement part and it is $600!! So my plan is to remove the piece and matching ashtray lid and have it painted black to match the car. I can take it to the shop and leave it there for a couple of days or I can remove the pieces and keep my car comfortably at home.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So I figured out how to get the console removed (basically pull it up carefully) and I had the console and the plastic piece around the i-drive know painted black. I think it looks awesome!

I did something similar to mine to cover the scratches but I used matte black vinyl. After looking at your pics I think I will paint them gloss black ![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
