NAVTEQ is still the provider of the nav maps and POIs last I checked (they have a new DVD available now.)
M5 Board posted some stuff about it and I just went to the Navteq site and they no longer support BWM.

Our cars are almost twins.

Vic - I"m thinking of going 20's but maintaining width and aspect ratio at 255/285 both at 35's. Now I know you went lower but the set up I'm thinking of will keep the same height on the sidewalls. Do you think this set up will be much harsher than the stock 18's?

Sorry, I read too fast and thought you posted that NAVTEQ stopped supplying MB not BMW

So that means Tele Atlas must be now supplying the maps and POIs for BMW. It's basically the only real other auto nav content supplier. fwiw, Tele Atlas is now owned by Tom-Tom.

Hijack away...

I know you asked Vic, but I can attest to the ride when only adding 20s (before modding the suspension), and it isn't much worse than the stock 19s. I know you have 18s, but it shouldn't make it that much different. It's altering the suspension which really impacts the ride comfort. Hope that helps.

It can find a needle in a haystack if I need to.

Hope the 2011 E offers an iPod cable that also charges the iPod along with a leather dash and alcantara! They might also want to update the Command System so the Bluetooth can read contacts directly off a phone. I've noticed that if I add a new contact to my phone, the car won't recognize it in the system without deleting all contacts and then re-downloading them. I guess I'm just not sure how small things like this are overlooked on a car that carries a $100k price tag.
fwiw, I have the same COMAND system that's in the W212 (the last of the 2009 W211s got the updated HDD COMAND and Nav.) But the difference is that I can input info while in motion. They changed it with the W212. That implies it's a software thing. I'm guessing a savvy person could probably fix that (like Steve at MBNL.)

Not sure why you can't add new contacts via Blutooth? Go into the menu to contacts then download and then add instead of download all.

Daimler was touting use an Apple interface, etc., etc.. Who knows what happens with that stuff; it all pretty much comes down to money, contracts and profit. I agree they should use Garmin. I read somewhere that Garmin doesn't want to get into the OEM auto side because they can develop, upgrade, and produce the latest tech with handhelds easily (too much lead time involved in auto design to production, to assembly.)

As Matt said, your handling and ride quality will deteroriate with the drop but also with a drop in tire ratio aspect. I had the stock 18's for a few weeks, then I did a drop but kept the 18's while my HRE's were getting built. The ride was not much more harsh because the aspect of the tires were still stock but the lowering did increase the bounciness of the car. Once I went to the lower profile tires with 20's (30 series and 25 rears) is where I really started to feel the road more. Im talking road feel and comfort versus handling.

In your case keeping the same sidewall aspect ratio as stock but going with 20's should be ok with limited increase in harshness since you will have the larger aspect to absorb the shock of the road. But you will be changing the overall diameter since you are not going with a plus size setup and this will look really odd and also affect your speedo. Further it will increase the rolling diameter of your wheels which can affect braking too. I dont recommend going with 35 series tires on 20's.

Vic - Thanks for shedding light on that. I didn't consider issues relating to the diameter of the wheel rotation as i was really focused on ride comfort. I really want to mazimixe ride comfort here as the roads where i live really suck. What's the highest profile you think i can get away with on 20's?
(The stock 18's are 40's in the front and 35's in the back and the stock 19's are 35/30.)

Thanks

Super Thread Jack in Progress, sorry Matt!!!!!!!

No matter what, if you go with 20's you will change the diameter of the wheel if you dont go with a 30 front and 25 rear... I guess you could run 30's all the the way around and stay relatively close. If the roads are really that much of an issue I suggest 19's with the following setup:

19x9 with 245x35 fronts
19x10 or 19x10.5 with 285x30 or 295x30 rears

I run the following on 20's

255x30
295x25

I was able to fit the 295's due to the roudness of the sidewall (Nitto Invo) but if I went with a PS2 I would rub for sure.

Nice wing Matt- which one is it?????

It's a JL Motoring wing. Quality looks very nice for a wet carbon piece. I haven't fitted it up to the car yet, hope that goes smoothly. I will post pics as soon as it is installed.
