Yeah, I can't believe they tried to cost cut with that. Dumb move. They had plenty of complaints according to my dealer.
Now you can order an optional stitched dash.

on a 2011 E63 w pano roof - does the alcantara headliner disappear?
I know on ALL w211 cars - the pano roof meant NO alcantara.
still the same ??

I'm sorry, my mistake - I wasn't thinking quite clearly apparently, and this has been a while ago.
Upon closer inspection & looking at pictures online- I recall the SUNSHADES were not alcantara.
Does this change with 2011+ 212's...? Thx

That's odd, because the last one I saw in person was an 09 as well.
I am 100% certain of what I saw, touched, felt. Interesting.....

'10 E63 Obsidiant Black; '06 R350 Alabaster White; 05 C55 Obsidiant Black (sold)
mine is '10 and the alcantara came standard (Canadian spec). However the sunshade is still made of a piece of thin cloth.

JPol402:
Here is a link to a photo of the alcantera headliner with the pano roof on my 2011. As Fielding noted, the sunshades are fabric. Also, the stiched dash is standard for 2011. I think both of those additions for 2011 help enhance the interior of the car (along with the black lacquer center console).

When I first saw the W212 (2010) I was shocked at the cheapness of the interior materials. And I noticed that many of the components are from the C Class (Daimler did announce that they will be doing extensive bin sharing with different models.) My dealer was complaining too, and said that return buyers were turned off by the car and that his only customers were first time buyers.
I'm glad that MB got their ***** together and at least fixed the 'missing' alcantara issue. They keep trying to pull this stuff off on consumers. The new 2011 W212 E350/550 has a horn honk now for the alarm set instead of a chirp. That's cheap. Does the 2011 E63 still have a chirp?

^^
I agree 100% about interior craftsmanship of W211s superior to W212's - which are highly reminiscent of C-class. Unsure about horn honk issue, someone else should be able to answer that though.

220S - I would hate the honk. Chirps are a bit better....
So... my question still remains - on the 2011+ 212 E63, are the pano roof sunshades alcantara ?

Just to add more confusion, the sunshade fabric for the E350/550 was changed with the W212 models to a much more translucent and thinner material that lets in more light. The W211 has a thicker and fully opaque material that lets in no light at all.
Does the E63 have this same new lighter material, too? Can you see the sun's 'outline' when you look up? With the W212 350/550 you can see brightness, it's not 100% opaque.

Yes - the E63 has thin material for the sunshade and you can see some light coming through. For me, it blocks enough sun/light to work as advertised. The sunshade on our Buick Enclave, however, is a black mesh weave that does not work so well.
