if i were to get new tires, I think i would do it again. MUCH better traction, i can barely break free now, even at WOT.

Pros:
1. Gentler ride
2. MUCH better traction
3. takes the jerkiness off of 1st gear
4. wheel ratio is higher so less likely to have traction control kick in on a little slipping

Cons:
1. makes my 19's look like 18's
2. makes my rear tires looks like drags
3. even more camber

@vic, are you sure there's not camber adjustments for our rears? My wheels are so angled now. I imagine it's the same for you with your 20's!

Correct, no camber adjustment on our cars. You can install the camber bolts to force adjustment if you like. Yes, my camber is currently at -2.50 degrees or so. Its no biggie, the toe measurement is more meaningful for wear.

Vic, thanks. :-)

man... what a pain. Oh well, guess let's see how bad the wear is this time.

FYI, these tires are beasts! I have so much more traction! It's amazing. I didn't expect that much improvement over PZero's, but these Bridgestones are AWESOME!

I've never been able to break free, as long as it's dry and not below 45F.

I'm going to get them all around. :-)

Quick update, it's been raining for 5 days straight here in LA. And I'm utterly impressed with how well these tires work in the wet as well.

Far superior to my old Pirellis! I really didn't expect that much improvement, but it's significantly better in both wet and dry than the P Zero's.

Traction, grip, road noise, softness are all better.

Not sure about treadwear or life yet though. :-) Will keep you updated.

Racing Dad,

How are your R11s wearing? Is the wet traction still good? I am in Florida, need excellent traction in the rain.

I am thinking about them for my E550 Sport RWD. I have Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics (on OEM AMG wheels) and have issues with rear end breaking loose on dry pavement. I have to start in 3rd gear to prevent this. I dropped the PSI on rears from 40 to 38, seems a bit better.

Thanks.

lowering the PSI a little helps. I usually have it around 36-38.

never tried the GE F1's. but i had pirelli P Zero's. Supposedly the p Zero's are supposed to have better wet traction than my current RE11's. But overall, I really feel much better traction on these both wet and dry.

The wear has been good. Although, i've only had them on for 1K miles. :-) I'll tell you what they're like when i'm at 9K. :-)

When buying new tires, I really used these surveys help guide me
extreme performance (RE 11's are included in this)

max performance (Pirelli Pzero's & your GY F1's are in here)

Racing Dad,

What did you end up replacing the front tires with or do you still have the pirelli's?

Quick update, as of a few months ago, i changed out my fronts. So I am running on RE-11's all around.

It's great! I love it!

In fact, i love it so much, i'm usually an experimenter, but i think there really is not much more to gain so I'm sticking with these even when i have to replace these tires.

Those oem Conti ?ContiSport really suck. Just look at all those horrible comments about them on various tire websites. They could have used the Conti tires ending with DW that is much better. Pirelli would have been good, too. Of course, Michelin SuperSport would be the best for summer.

I'm going with Michelin Pilot Super Sports when it's time for changing. Installed them on my 599 and the difference in traction and wear was night and day.

Fantastic tire although I believe there are some restriction in size and spec's offered.

Consumers Reports would agree with you based on their testing. The Michelin Super Sports scored way, way higher than the previous #1 GoodYear.

Do you know who sells the camber bolts for the W212?
Could be nice to get things evened out side to side.

Also wondering what the alignment specs are. With -2.5 camber, no wonder our cars handle so good.

don't mean to dig up an old thread, but wanted to give 1 more update.

just about to change rear RE-11's again. I'm running RE-11's all around. Love them!!

Rear's are at the replacement mark, at 29K now, gone through 2 sets of rears.

The RE-11's have been so good, love everyhing about them, going to put RE-11's on the rear again. :-) 285/35/19

Would you mind posting a pic of those tires on your car?
I'm wondering if the next size up 305-30-19 could fit
(with new wheels of course).

It bugs me that a 911 GTS gets 305, when we get 285.

Knowing how much clearance you have on each side of your tires will help.
I'm assuming (based on specs sheets) those 285-35 RE-11 are wider than the stock 285-30 PZero.

no problem. i'll do it tomorow. in fact, i'll do it with the tire tucked in so you can see.

it's not wider, although the RE-11's in general are wider (or more square) than then p-zero's. But it's taller. I felt the car was too torque from stand still and i kept peeling out. The taller tires give me a slightly softer ride, no noticeable sacrifice to handling, and just enough less torque so the tires stick!

I stepped up fronts to 40's instead of 35's so they both went up proportionally. Some people were for and against it, but i love the set up.

got it! hopefully they're clear enough. it's as tucked in as i can get it. but looks like you have enough room, of course, you'll still need to deal with offsets and other variables. But not sure if you were considering a new rim. I probably wouldn't go any wider than 285 on this rim.

hope it helps.

Thanks for posting the pics. The tires still look very low profile for 35's.
It does look like another size wider can be done with an adjustment to the wheel offset.
I think your made a good decision on your setup as it improves both performance and comfort.

in the pictures the tires do look a lot thinner. not sure why.

with new rims, correct? I don't think you can go any thicker without doing new rims all around.

did you guys give any consideration to some "all weather" tire options?

I don't have any experience with the Conti Extreme Contact DWS, the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus, or any others, but was curious if these are decent tires for someone that doesn't want to swap out all seasons in the winter

For all season tires for the E63, I would go for Pirelli PZero Nero. However, they are jack of all trades, and master of none.

I turned to equipe my 20 years old reliable RWD car. I opted for a set of Michelin winter tires that are way narrower with larger wall profile (195/60-15), plus separate oem alloy wheels that are so easy to find for cheap nowadays: 4 wheels and 4 winter tires for less than $500--Good for less than couple dozen heavy snow days around where I live.

As a result, I still get to have summer tires on my car.

Thanks to Racing Dad

Racing Dad is right on recommending these tires.

I had ruled out RE-11 due to the taller 285-35-19 size.
However, Thanks to Racing Dad, I'm glad I got them.
I now think this taller size is more appropriate for the car.
It definetly fills the wheel well better (and looks better IMHO).

I stayed with the stock 255-30-19 size up front (did not go to 40 series in front like Racing Dad).

End Result;

Tires are more square than the PZeros but actually slightly narrower over-all by about 1/16".

Noise seems quieter than my balding PZeros (which also seemed reasonably quiet).

I'm not seeing any significan speedometer error.
My car indicates 1MPH higher than the "Speed View" GPS app on my phone (taking readings on highway at 75-80 mph speeds).
Previously, with my bald PZeros it was pretty much dead on accurate.
It makes no sense, so I wonder if our cars use the internal GPS to calibrate the speedometer.

The car now turns in so instantly its literally scary.
However, that works for me.
It makes this big heavy sedan feel tossable.

I could keep going on longer.....

All I should really say is, you need to get these tires.

Great to hear!! Gosh! I'm flattered!

All of what you said is exactly how i felt. It fits better, runs better, handles better, sticks much better, and at no sacrifice!

I"m about to change out to my 2nd pair in back!

I did fronts as wel, so at least the ratio between front and back were consistent, so it didn't affect the traction control.

But i ran on no the RE-11's on the back for sevearl months and it was fine.

These tires are great aren't they!

Before i got them i was planning on rotating out sevearl and trying different ones, but i'm SOO HAPPY with these, there's no point in messing with perfection! :-)

Glad i could help! and hope you enjoy them!

You are right!
I would never bother testing any other tire.
As impressive as the RE-11's performance is, its how civilized they are that seals the deal.

The wear rating is completely acceptable, since they cost 20% less than P Zero and Conti 5P.

I get an alignment Monday and then I get to really find out what these tires can do.

I can't thank you enough for convincing me to get these.
The car is so much more fun to drive now.

Glad i could help and nice to hear. i couldn't agree more with you. I almost forgot what it used to feel like. The only memory left is from the great feeling i had when i first got them. funny how quickly we get spoiled. :-)
