Effects of debadging an E63...on others
I have had my 2010 E63 for a little over 6 weeks now. The first 3 weeks the car was as it came from the factory, plus window tints. Week 3 I took the "E63" and "///AMG" badges off the back.
During the first 3 weeks I had at least a dozen people in various types of vehicles attempting to challenge/race/go-at-it or variations thereof.
During the last three weeks...Nada
I have frequented similar roads and have carried a similar driving style during the 6 weeks.
Has anyone had a similar experience?

Just to make sure i'm understanding this correctly. With the badges people are challenging you, without the badges, nobody. Correct?
If that's the case, I've never been challenged, had the car for almost a year now.
I agree!

I got mine debaged on the trunck lid. The sales manager convinced me hard on not removing the 6.3 on the side. So, I still have the side badge at the moment.
It was interesting when I encountered M3/M5 drivers. Not often but there were few times that those drivers tried in a very obvious way to drive to my side and look hard to identify my side badge. Maybe it was the way I drive the car.......
I normally am very haevy footed but always in areas that I enjoyed the speed and handling of my E63 alone. I realized how much oil she consumed after around 5k miles. She took little over 2 quarters and the dealer top it with free of charge.
However, they did also ask me to allow replacement of oil sensor. Their reason was that the warning sign should have gone off earlier than getting over 2 quarters consumption. It was free too and I saw the charge if without warranty ------almost $1,000 for just sensor replacemnt!!

ya i can see it being not so easy to recognize the AMG on the W212 for the regular guy, but for others driving Ms and Rs can't imagine why they would need to look at the badges to figure it out. I can spot any of those from a mile away and I'm not one to always having my nose in car mags and keeping up with the latest.
I'm in the tri state area and there is no shortage of posers with regular mercs and AMG badges and you can always tell which are and which aren't. Somebody's gotta tell those guys to remove their S550 or the E350 badges after they throw on the AMGs! =)

From the impression on those drivers who looked at the side badge, my guess is that they knew all along (otherwise, they wouldn't even check) and just either wanted to double check or maybe induce a race......

I generally leave badges on my cars. For some reason, whenever I see a nicer debadged car I assume it was in an accident and the body shop didnt install the badges back on or the customer chose not to.
The only badge I have removed is the ugly Nissan hamburger off my GT-R. And I did remove my 997TT Turbo badge only to replace it with a slightly larger 944 Turbo badge in flat black.

Some of the challengers probably simply wanted to witness firsthand how quick your car was, as in not trying to prove anything. They probably knew they'd lose, but wanted to compare and see how bad it would be. And by doing that, they'd be able to vividly imagine how cool it would be driving a mighty E63.

I'll all for anti car-violence, so, somebody should slap a wakeup call into that cars owner.
