2012 CLS63
Took some pictures the day the car arrived. Pictures are attached.
I agree it is expected that the 5.5TT is faster than the 6.2 NA. What I meant by mentioning the C63 and E63 was that I didn't expect this big a difference.
Regarding the Panamera I drove one a few weeks before receiving my car and I agree... Although the 0-60 numbers are impressive I believe that much of it is in the PDK and 4wd... as I said from a rolling start I think the CLS will beat it.
Cheers,
H.

I just got back from the AMG Performance Tour in Toronto and the 2012 E63 pulled on the CLS63.
The E63 is a way sharper car than the CLS63. When you drive the therm back to back you notice right away that the CLS feels heavier and less nimble
We did side by side drags of the CLS63 vs the E63 and the E63 pulled by a car each time. Even the E63 wagon pulled on the CLS....and the CLS is crazy fast....
I was there with 3 of my friends and we all picked the E63 over the CLS63
Youu need to drive them back to back to really notice the difference...otherwise they are both exceptional Super Sedans

My registration says 4153 lbs and Mercedes dropped the price $4,150 bringing it closer to the E63.

"The 2012 E63 AMG is essentially a mechanical doppelgaenger for the CLS63 AMG. Both have the same hand-built, direct-injection V-8 that makes 518 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Both have the same seven-speed wet clutch transmission, the same electrohydraulic steering system, and upgraded suspension and electronics. Unlike the CLS63, which had dramatic plastic surgery along with its heart transplant, the 2012 E63 receives only the tiniest of Botox injections, primarily new 10-spoke wheels and V-8 BITURBO badging.

the CLS63 ripped to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, 100 in 8.5, and 150 in 19.5. Add 0.1 second to those times if launch control is used. The quarter-mile is 12.0 seconds away, at which point you’ll be going 121 mph. The 4275-pound, four-door CLS63 will dust a Corvette Grand Sport and hang close to a Z06.

during the 0-60 and quarter-mile runs. Those millisecond shifts helped push the 4256-pound CLS63 to a rarified 0-to-60 time of 3.9 seconds, with the quarter coming in 12.1 seconds at 121.3 mph
the 2012 CLS63 is $4,150 less expensive than before.

Personally, I prefer the CLS over the E regardless if 550 or 63.

The E and CLS are so close in every aspect
The E and CLS are so close in every aspect but looks, that it amazes me when I read ridiculous unsupported statements:
Its based on the C class.
Has a cramped interior.
Weights 300 lbs more.
Is slower around corners, less nimble.
I'm lucky and get to drive (or ride in) modded E55's and E63's every week so my opinions are not based on one or two rides but instead on "seat time"

That's kinda the problem....when you rely on magazine stats to justify your stance....side by side spreadsheet analytics dont tell you which is the better car......you exclude the entire aspects of dynamics and feel.
I do agree that the CLS has the advantage in style (i was ready to put a deposit on one), but the E63 is a better driver's car in every single category. The CLS63 is a an aswesome car but just not as sharp at the limits.
You really notice the difference in the high-speed slalom and driving them back to back. I've driven both the 2011 CLS63 and 2011 E63 around the track for a full day and there was no comparison. The E63 has just a better driving car...faster....sharper...and more confidence inspiring. It's even more the case with the 2012's. And now with more thrust, you can tell when you drive them, that they are very different.
Just my 2 cents (plus tax)

Thanks, I always use just one magazine (when possible) for car reviews so its as fair as possible.

Since they share the exact same chassis, motor, transmission, suspension and wheels I got confused for a moment, sorry.

The E63 is 227 pounds lighter than the CLS63....
"The now slightly lighter 4,050-pound E63 (227 pounds less than the CLS63 AMG with which it shares underpinnings) felt balanced through even the most exaggerated long bends at Paul Ricard"

From MB/AMG site:
CLS 63 = 4277 Curb Weight
E63 = 4084 Curb Weight
4277 - 4084 = 193lbs.
All this fuzzy math, I am going according to this in AMG site. I think they would be the best to see weight and other specs on their on own cars.

E63 1840KG = 4056.5 US pounds
CLS63 1870KG = 4122.6 US pounds
Thats a difference of 66 pounds
I hope you see why i am sticking to what it says at Mercedes AMG website

Just an update...
Although the headroom thing is a bummer I have know reached 400miles and gave up on the break-in following MBs instructions. By no means I wish to discuss if its good or bad for the car. What I wanted to say is that this car is fast!!! On my VBOX, without race start, I can get 3.9 (0-60) every time. But that isn't enough to describe how fast it feels. I have had a Renntech tuned C63 and an E63 and they don't even come close!!! Either MB is lying about hp or this is the best engine ever! As for the lag, it is barely noticeable, much less so than in the panamera turbo. Actualy haven driven a panamera turbo I'm looking for one to race. I honestly believe that form a rolling start this car will beat it.
Regards,
H.

I am also moving from a normally aspirated E63 to a turbo E63 (by way of Jag XFR in between).
Is your the 550hp version?
Thanks

My 2012 CLS63 weighs 4153 lbs, see below.
I did get the lighter forged alloy wheels to shave some weight (code 793) and carbon fiber interior instead of the wood treatment.
Naturally we agree that the weight of the two cars in question were different as you described so well, thank you.
It just as easily could have been a loaded E63 with the Panorama roof and standard wheels (4,300) versus a striped CLS63 with forged wheels (4,153)
Something else to consider during the purchasing cycle, I did.

Everyone on here understands that weight varies with different options, wheels and brakes.

The suspension is stiffer & sportier with less body roll and and entering-exiting driveways its noticeably firmer with less bottoming out.
Acceleration is completely different as the feel and sound have changed.
You have to try one out for yourself. The excitement is surreal in first and second gears followed by long third and fourth gears with an urgent sense of speed building.

quick question
how are the seats compared to each other? is it the same sized seat?
also in the comfort suspension setting with the PP pack how much rougher is it then non?
i had a 2010 e550 4matic loved it but i want somthing more sporty but not to crazy where i dont like the ride. Im in process of selling my panamera 4S for a loss cause i find it to be a very rough ride with a bad non supportive seat. i think its down to these cls63 or 2012 e63 plus with or without PP pack of course i want the extra power but for the amount i'm going to use it i don't want to not have a car i find comfy to drive everyday. i wish the e63 was a little flashier i love the cls63 but i feel it will drive a little big and heavy compared to the E63 i really dont care about back seat size.
thanks

I do not believe a e63 will pull a full car length from a cls63.....that is a huge difference for 2 identical 4000+ lb cars - 200lbs apart.
either way i would pick the cls63
