performance package- any negatives

im posting this on the 212 and 211 forum just cuz i havent decided which model im gonna buy yet, it will either be a 2009 or 2010 car

just wondering, is there any negatives in the PP, or is it all positives

wondering if any of the features will cause issues down the road or not

Well since you are talking about 09's or 10's the only thing i can think of is:

Price- do you really get what you pay for? The 2012 PP actually comes with a decent HP and TQ bump but that is not part of the 09 or 10 model. Of course these are my thoughts. I had the option to get a PP on my 2010 car and chose not to. Now I am considering a 2012 CLS63 and the PP is peaking my interest.

CTS-V Coupe
I'd say for the 2012 the PP is a must, for previous model years not as much.

right, for the 2009 or 2010, what difference does the LSD really make, i never really understand the concept of it

also, seprate note, is it only the 2012 that have a wet clutch?

I have a 2011 (think 2010) with the p30 PP. What it gets you is the most magnificent steering wheel, absolutely incredible forged 5 spoke wheels and a suspension that is tuned about 40% stiffer (according to an AMG engineer in the AMG private lounge). Oh, it also includes the limited slip diff. Being quite a bit stiffer I do feel more of the imperfections in the road (and there are a lot in my community) but it isn't, in my estimation to harsh. Then again, I wanted a true drivers car. On soft my wife never complains about the ride. On full stiff it feels harsher than our '05 996 turbo s at low speeds. Then she complains about the roads.

RE: 2012. Wet clutch was/is 2010 up. The transmission is one of the best features of this car.
If you don't want the stiffer suspension don't buy the 2012 PP. Just get an aftermarket tuners programming for more power. I ordered mine with the PP because I did want that suspension upgrade. Note that the quoted 7300 for the PP is really 8300 as they require you to spend 1000 for the blingy red painted brakes. I couldn't justify the 13gs for carbon. Also, in 2012, forged wheels and LSD are not part of the PP. Good news is that apparently the P2 package is standard and I am not being charged a GG tax.

The difference might be tenths or more on track. Not much value on the street with "everyday driving".

My 2011 will go back to the dlr at the end of Oct. as a trade-in.

I do not have the PP. Agree it gives you killer wheels and a steering wheel that is pretty sweet. You can also get those options seperatly though.

While I have never driven a PP W212 E63, the ride is a good amount stiffer from what I have heard. For me, the normal non-PP E63 is beyond my needs. It recently won against the new F10 M5 (including handling) and that car they used did NOT have the PP. Point is, the E63 handles pretty darn well even without the PP. And you can get the steering wheel and rims for about $3K extra from the factory.

Vdubpower: steel gray metallic, black/black ash, p2, p30 and about 18,500 miles.

E55_gt3wheels: I agree. Seems most folks don't want the stiffer suspension and, as you point out, they can get the cosmetic items separately. On the 2012 though, if they want the PP they will get the sport suspension. For power increase they'll need to go aftermarket if they don't want stiffer.

Sorry, no I haven't driven the 2012. I expect it to be virtually the same car. Other than the motor and the " drive by wire steering. Given the motor redlined at a much lower rpm I expect taller gearing ( offset by the major torque increase) and I worry about the feedback(or lack of) through the steering wheel.

If you are interested in my car email me privately and I'll get you contact info at my dealership.
