Odyssey Battery
It seems lots of people are complaining about flaky batteries.
Interestingly, our cars appear to have a Group 48 battery installed.
However, the tray can accomodate a Group 49.
Perhaps the smaller battery was used to save some weight.
My OEM Varta battery was flaking and my dealer flaked on wanting to warranty it.
I didn't see any point trying to fight with them for another junk undersized Varta battery.
It was time to get something better.
I usually put Odyssey batteries in all my cars, as I have had great luck with them, to the point of an Odyssey batteries service life spanning more than one car.
I also like that there will never be any acid dammage to battery tray or terminals.
The specs and construction of these AGM batteries is top notch.

Just wanted to let you know the Odyssey PC1350 fits perfectly in a W212.
I was very happy to remove that Varta junk from my car.

To be fair it appears Varta also makes an AGM battery.
It's their top of the line Start-Stop Plus.

It's certianly not what came in my car.
Are the M157's getting an AGM Varta for the Start-Stop system?

Did you need to remove any separators or surrounding materials from the engine compartment of the W212 E63 for the battery to fit? Is there any retail seller or did you buy them from online at $330?

The battery fit perfectly, despite being 2" longer at 14" vs 12".
The only thing I removed was the old Varta Battery and the Vent Tube (red elbow and clear hose).
AGM Batteries don't need a Vent Tube.
When installing, I removed the front water drain funnel and strut controller, just so they did not get damaged while hoisting batteries around.
I put them back after, along with the Air Intake Duct.
It looks like it should have been that way from the factory.
Odyssey batteries may be available from higher end specialty automotive retailers.
They are not mass marketed, and mostly consumed by commercial and military where reliability and service life are important.
I bought from the distributor, in the link I sent, and I'm pretty sure it was a better price than a retailer would charge.
They guy deals a bit so perhaps you can get a better price than I did.

That's good info. E63 sure can use a more powerful battery. I have the oem Varta on BatteryMinder conditioner from time to time and I noticed just disarming and opening the doors for a few seconds will make the BatteryMinder go into charging mode from the conditioning mode. It's amazing how modern cars eat up so much battery power.
Maybe I should get one a year or two from now and just leave it on the BatteryMinder. If it does last so long, it is actually not too pricey.
