Tranny feels clunky 2010 E63

Just got a 2010 E63 a few months back and I have a few questions about the tranny. I have not driven other e63's to compare but I just wanted to ask the members to see if their tranny is doing the same before I take it in for service.

First off let me just say that the car is driven mostly in "c" mode, since it's mostly a weekend car and the wife and kids are in the car also. (probably will get a lot of flaming for this "you have a E63 and you're driving in "c" not "S" or "S+"?)

1) when driving in a parking lots or at low speeds the tranny seems to down shift hard. Then when you accelerate from that low speed the car would launch forward then tranny would quickly shift to a higher gear (like gear hunting)

2) also slowly accelerating from a dead stop the car would sometimes rev before the gear catches and when the tranny catches it would launch the car forward, sort of like driving a manual and you accidentally slip the clutch while on the gas.

3) when slowing down for a red light, the car would sometimes down shift to a gear that is too low too fast and everyone's head in the car would be moving forward while the car is slowing down to fast, due to the sudden gear change (during normal driving).

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
I thought my '10 E63 feels the same. I thought this type of transmission usually behave like this. I'll have to pay more attention to see if your described characteristic is also there when I drive.

Completely normal. I dislike driving this car at low speeds or in traffic, trans is very jerky... Sprint booster helps apparently.

Thanks for the response

Thanks for all the response. I thought there was something wrong with the car. I was about to take it in and have it checked out. I guess these things are not made for going slow.

Is this unique to the 2010? I test drove the 2012 including going through stop and go traffic (to test the distronic plus) and didn't notice anything like this. You guys have me getting nervous, having a clunky shifting transmission in low speed traffic would be really disappointing.

Since it has a wet clutch you need to modulate the throttle as you would with a manual trans.
Feel for the clutch engagement and modulate throttle accordingly.
To drive smoothly at slow speeds just feather the throttle lightly and try not to back off throttle needlessly, or you will buck like a bad manual trans driver.
Driving in C helps so you don't have the sharper response of 1st gear to deal with.

My 2007 E63 did the exact same thing, after 5 trips to the dealer i just accepted that it was "normal"

2010 E63 does the same thing although a little bit less harsh, still evident. You have nothing to worry about

E 63 AMG
mine does the same thing. Is what it is. My issue is it clunks into 1st coming to a stop where the other gears are fine. I too have a 2010 E63. Other than that the car is a monster and i love it.
