2013 facelift E63 AMG 4Matic
I just got confirmed that the upcoming face lifted 2013 E63 AMG will be available with 4Matic and that it will have one of the quickest 0-100 km/h ever in AMG history with around 3.5 sec!!!
It will also have new headlights with a single lamp on each side and slightly different rear side fenders.
According the my source the front bumper on the E63 AMG will also be more distinct compared to the non AMG models.
I look forward to see it in real life in a few months!

Hopefully the 4matic will have good blend of LSD with torsen/helical to distribute all that power. IMHO, for 4WD system, I'm biased towards Audi's 4WD and Nissan's ATTESA-ETS PRO as the best at this time.
Certainly love the 4WD system in snow-belt area like here. But that's only a few days out of the year where having dedicated snow tires help out more. Definitely wouldn't affect those of you in SoCal. In the end, I might still go for the non 4matic system due to less complicated system on board.

My source in Mercedes-Benz dealer who want´s to sell me a new E63 AMG T 4Matic...
I am quite sure the 4Matic will be available in the US, since around 85% of all E-class 4Matic´s are headed for North America and I am guessing it´s demand from this market that made this 4Matic possible.
The model will arrive end of the year/beginning of 2013 i Europe.

M5 is now 3.7 and bit turbo is very low 4s right now. Its possible although not certain about 4matic. That is a shift in philosophy. And 0-60 times will not be the determinant of a decision between sls and e63. C'mon. Thise are two very different market segments not to mention coupe vs 4door. If I had the money for an sls, I'm banging around with Ferraris, lambos, Astons etc, not e63s...

Motor trend recently did a test with the bi-turbo reaching 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, so 3.5 with 4matic seems very possible. Here is a link in case you missed it.

The rumor is 0-100km/h in 3.2 sec, but Mercedes is saying "around" 3.5 sec so I think this is "doable".
I had a 2006 ML63 AMG with 550hp/660Nm (ECU-tuning) and this did 0-100 in 4.7 sec (measured by the rep from the tuning company with me as a passenger on studded winter tires!), so I am convinced that around 3.5 sec is correct.

i just called MB NA - they said the '13 line-up had been announced. no changes to E-Series other than E400 hybrid. No E63 4matic. was your thought that it'd be in Europe first?

Overall, there seems to be a lot of confusion as to when the e-class refresh is happening. Some say 2013, some say 2014. If the cars are first released in that end-of-2013, start-of-2014, then I would think that is a mid-year refresh and the cars would be called 2014 models and that would also explain why there is so much conflicting information on when the refresh is happening.
Personally, the 4matic rumor seems very believable as MB just developed this for the new ML63, so presumably it would be low effort to bring to the E-class (assuming the ride hight clearance is okay...?) Although, would love to see a true DSG transmission even more...

Certainly not impossible with four wheels putting down the power rather than the two right now. Look at gtr and how it puts that torque number (way smaller compared to E63 with P30) down effectively. Ideally, all cars with that much power would benefit from 4WD system. I'm sure that's the same reason Veyron went with 4WD to handle that much power. Veyron's 0-60 would definitely have suffered from the traditional 2WD.
Hopefully the 4matic will have good blend of LSD with torsen/helical to distribute all that power. IMHO, for 4WD system, I'm biased towards Audi's 4WD and Nissan's ATTESA-ETS PRO as the best at this time.

An E AMG with these figures will be available one day. Next year? Highly doubtful.

Likely MB will detune it in a way so that SLS and BS remain the flagship for 0-60 time.
By the way, I read it recently in Consumers Reports that some AWD system require all four wheels to have the same diameter. Thus if you get an unrepairable damage in one of the tires, ie sidewall damage, you will need to replace all four tires if the circumference difference between new and old tires is too great; or risk severe AWD system damage in the future. I'm skipping any 4wd system that does that.

I agree with your points, however I think you misunderstood what I meant. The fact is, there is probably no doubt that Merc can achieve a 3.5 0-100km/h time. But that doesn't mean that they will. People who buy an SLS or black series don't want to have a slower car than an E-Class sedan which is half the price. It's not good for their business model.

+1 they won't make it faster than the SLS at $220k price mark. Even de-tune whats the point ? Most of AMG buyer know what they are buying. Plus, some article shows 4.4 sec, some shows 3.8sec. I don't think it can do 3.8Sec.

Why would an SLS buyer care?
Its the perfect excuse for them to buy an E63 too.

Ya i agree. Buyers of SLS don't give much of a hoot about bragging rights when it comes to 0-60. They aren't teenagers or young bucks. The demo for the SLS is not the same demo as those who really care about a .25 second. Thats an arugment that plays for M5 vs e63 comp....not SLS. Totally different markets. They aren't dropping $300k for the speed. If they want bragging rights, they can spend half that and get it in a porsche or for the same price, they can buy a ferrari.
