2012 E 63 AMG PP
new Car and Driver E 63 AMG comparison test

Anyone seen this? The E 63 minus the PP was ranked midway between the Audi S6 and M5.., The S6 came in 20k cheaper and the AMG was the priciest..

420 hp lol what is this 2004

Cylinder deactivation, if I wanted that I'd got a e350

I paid for 8 cylinders dammit

I agree tho with the stupid plastic gas cover. Wtf

Well at least we made it ahead of the Beemer, never thought that would happen

Too bad they didn't test a P30 car. Not sure if this one had limited slip either. Impressive win in chassis, Powertrain and driving dynamics categories.

I have to hand it to Audi they def get the most performance out of the least power. The Quattro and Stronic transmission def launch the Audis. I was always amazed with how fast my Stronic s4 could get off the line.

As for the M5 I'm glad I didn't wait for one. From the piped in sound to the poor steering feel, skittish ride and 81 different transmission and suspension settings it seems like the e63 offers a better driving experience. I will hopefully know first hand this week with the expected arrival of my p30 LSD beast.

2012 E 63 AMG PP
I have absolutely no regrets, the E 63 with the PP in my opinion far surpasses the competition, plus nothing sounds like it.

It seems as though the E63 is the best "driver's car" according to this article. The other surprise is the E63 without the PP is about even in terms of acceleration with the M5. I think the Audi won largely because it is 20k cheaper.

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
I can't even read the review for the other two cars. But that's no biggie. Definitely love the E63's color--the same iridium silver I have.

reading thru current autoweek, they have an article on the audis, they say audi says the competitor for this car is the E550 and 550i xdrive

makes more sense, price and power wise

bring on the rs6. which they say will be this same engine but with tweeks to get it up to 500 hp, as it has inthe bently and the A8,

i think the biggest surprise is that the M5 didn't win! C/D typically is pro BMW so the fact that it came last despite all the positive press it's received is surprising!

I think the RS6 is a better comparison than using a S6, but it still looks like a nice car overall... all VW products give me the heeby jeebies when it comes to long term reliability issues...

The S6 is targeted at the 550ix & E550 4Matic, as per Audi themselves in this week's Autoweek magazine. So the fact the car is not aimed at the cars in the comparison test C&D did yet put up some great 0-60 times & handling numbers is nice, not to mention the $20K lower price. When the RS6 comes out, then that would be a great comparison & I hope someone does a comparison test of the RS6, M5 & E63 w/PP.

Definitely reassuring for those of us who chose not to wait for the M5.

if you actually look at some of C/D older 3 car comparo's the mercs beats the older m5 and audi in different test.

now that is damn surprising.. a bimmer, and not just any bimmer, AN M-CAR was rated below something else in a C&D test

what is even more surprising is how the S6 came first.. it's a better car than the 550 and E550 I'm convinced but the full-blown performance models?

Just by placing the Audi first should say alot of things about the whole test in general, i wouldn't read into it too much. I wouldn't justify my E63 purchase just because it beat out the M5, nor would it stop me from buying an M5 because it came in third.

I agree, I think these tests can vary from month to month. Im sure quite a few people who went with the E63 would have taken a hard look at the M5 had it been out sooner. It will be interesting to see what some fellow board members who will invariably spend some seat time in an M5 (VIC) have to say about it. However it appears that the E63 is no longer just the loudest most unforgiving car in the comparo.

LOL Ahh have you seen the JD Power and also Consumer reports ranking lately on the MB cars? Third from bottom in reliability. Audi and VW definitely better in reliability.

Well if you have an S4 than you should know that the S6 is most likely underrated in power just like the S4 is. The S4 is is rated at 333hp but guys have dynoed at 300-310whp which makes it about 375-385hp at the crank. If we look at the S6 most likely it has about 450-470hp at the crank.

Yeah true not only the S4 but look at some of the times for the A7 and A6 even more impressive for big cars. I have seen 4.7 0-60 times. I think it comes down to the gearing and the potency of Audis Supercharged V6. I'm def looking forward to big torque down low with the E63 though.
