You are comparing a coupe to a sedan (unless you are talking M5)... the M6 is going to smaller in most forms of transportation spacing including luggage. The leather in the M5 is Merino, better than Nappa... more soft and higher grade.
HUD is awesome- hate that Benz never offered it as its not a trademark item of BMW.
The new Comand shoudl rival the 2013 IDrive but most of us have the 2012 version.
I did hear that on the M5- there are no side bolsters on the seats...???

BTW you are correct; the HUD is fantastic and should be an option on all high perfromance cars imho. I just realised how much I missed it from my E60 M5 and previous C5 Z06's.

cls has nappa on the seats, which is nice, butcrap compared to merino. and that "stuff" MB uses on the center consoles and dash reminded me of a football.
the sl63 would be a better comparo, but the m6 is still superior. IMO. even though its 30-40k less expensive.

The current seats are 18 way adjustable and do not have adjustable side bolsters; active or otherwise. This is a real shame as the car was advertised with the 20 way seats. Apparently there is an issue with all F10 5 Series cars in the USA due to side airbag regulations; hence none of them are equipeed with adjustable side bolsters. This is what we are being told by BMWNA. That being said, the 18 way seats are comfortable and do have decent side bolsters; they just aren't adjustable.

I seriously buy for driving dynamics, involvement, connection, while luxury, interiors, aesthetics, etc follow a close 2nd. And of course speed/fast plays a role in this decision but its not the end all, for me.

I LOLd the day it was released and my local dealership called me to let me know they had one in. A salesman ended up crashing it from day one!
Only minor, but so painful to see.

Thanks guys, I havent finalized anything yet but have sold my wheels off the CLS which makes my decision easier to move that AMG.
Who knows--- but its a nice decision to have pending.

Sorry but I gotta add my lowly 2 cents here. I've owned S65s, AMGs, S8s, Vipers, M3s, M5s, regular E46s, etc and I have to say that in the time that I've owned multiple (>5) bmw's, every single one has left me stranded on the side of the road. That's after being a part of every regular scheduled service. Whether its ethanol messing up the fuel pump, the SMG transmission shearing bolts into the drivetrain and now this debacle with the new M5, it just shows the ineptitude within BMW's leadership and quality control. I've lemoned BMWs in th past and its not a fun process to go through. Don't get me wrong, no car manufacturer is perfect and you'll notice that I'm not even saying MB is any better. But anytime I buy a car and "catastrophic failure" is what I've experienced, no chance in hell I'm ever buying that marque again. I've had my fill of BMW. Now, I've got my eye on a beautiful 442 in silver. More BMWs for the rest of ya!

So otakki, what are you making of all this both MB and BMW?

While the problem is obviously with BMW's oil pump supplier, the solution relies on BMW's handling of the disaster. They are taking care of their customers quite well, no?

Hey, what do I know. Only the experience of commenting from the perpsective of owning a ton of brand new bmw's in my lifetime. I'll just leave it at maybe they learned from a ton of experience ;-) After all, I'm the last to complain but let's just say they've read a few of my letters.

I have not owned as many cars as you have. However, I did read extensively about various marque's reliability history before choosing my current car. Thus it is quite reassuring to see that you, given your experience, have chosen the same year and model. I, too, have settled on the extended warranty to 2017. However, I am fairly sure I would trade it in in 2017 given the known issues on headbolts and other potential engine problems unless those issues can be fully resolved by that time. In fact, I am hoping for problem resolution because I know I will miss the big displacement N/A engine.
Overall, I believe MB's reliabilty has gone up quite a bit since the parting from Chrysler. However, BMW's problem volume remains constant even until this day.
BMW has handled this F10 M5 oil pump recall quite well. However, I am not sure if it is their choice in this case since there is a clear cause and effect relationship with the oil pump. For BMW to handle it any other well would be a major tarnish on BMW's reputation. Likewise, as I have mentioned on another thread, if the problem is more silent like those with the M156 engines, I'm sure BMW, as well as all other marques, will attempt to sweep it under the rug.
Also, BMW is able to handle this recall the way it is due to the problem being discovered so early in the production. If BMW already has similar number of engines running on the market as the M156 engines, the recall would not be so easy.

id definatley switch the B&O sound system for the full leather if i were you. or get both. the stock sound system is very good. i cant imagine why anyone would want anything better, especially in an m5, the sound i listen to most is the exhaust. only time i even turn on the stereo is on road trips.
but the full leather is the one must have option. it really makes the car feel like a $100,000 car

I have researched many posts on the B and O- differing of opinoins no doubt. I really enjoy blasting my radio having very clear sound so it might work for me. The full leather part is depending on what car I find but I have to have white if I even get this car. And Id rather have the sakhir orange inside than any other color.
As for the sound exhaust bite coming thru the radio I didnt even notice it when I test drove it. But I think there is a fuse we can remove to kill that feature....
