Are all tunes created equal
I am hesitant in tuning again and being a bit smarter with my next move. Trying to actually do some research on different tuners and what they actually do to increase power. More importantly why their tunes are different than their competiors
I have spoken to a couple of tuners and of course they say there will be no problems. The funny thing is that nobody has yet mentioned that spark plugs might be an issue with this car and its recomended to change them.
I am finding that most tuners have not tuned that many of the m157 engines and do not have enough info yet. Something I worry about
From what I understand and I could be wrong,
There are a couple of kid genius in Europe developing these tunes and then selling them here in the US. Whether the US tuner is actually making changes is something I dont think anybody will know. If creating power is coming from the same basic adjustments- increasing boost, changing time and fuel then most tunes should be similar in some shape way or form
I have heard that some tuners create their own tunes here.
I guess my point of this post is that if I get a different tune from another company will I most likely run into similar issues with mis-fires etc.
My car was relashed back to stock when I took it in. Although I greatly miss the power I feel confident that I can push my car and not be stranded on the side of the road with a mis-fire
Anybody that knows anything about anything about tuning please chime in. I sure dont
Sebc. How does the dealer know if the tune affected the plugs or not

As knowledeable as we all are---- we are not tuners and we cant guarantee a thing. Experiences from owners are definitely tangible but you are worried about tuners not working long enough the M157, misfires, and ultimately stranded on the road. Based your statements you should stay stock and let more time pass so more bugs can get ironed out and you will have peace of mind.

Bottom line, as Vic says, you mod at your own risk, but there are certainly varying degrees of risk you take depending on the research you do and vendor you select. In the case of the basic m157 tune, obviously there are scattered spark plug issues that tunes will exploit with their higher boost settings. But some tunes raise boost higher than others, so clearly to minimize your chances of encountering this problem, go with a tune with more conservative boost targets. That's the main reason I chose Renntech, because peak boost on their shelf tune is set identical to the stock PP level of 18.8psi.
Good luck to the OP.

I am thinking to take car to a local mechanic and check plug since dealer won't under warranty and see if hats the problem
I issues that I am running into is similar to nick and sebc but not that extreme. Who knows it might not be the plugs. Car runs fine now with stock tune and same plugs. I believe both nick and sebc had cracked plugs and their cars would not rev pasted 2k even after restart
Boost is the same as the stock PP, and does not change . But they do increase boost for non PP tunes.
