Buying a used E63 AMG
I'm currently a 911 (997) driver and needing more room but enjoy having a little "fire in the belly" of the beast so i think the E63 fits the bill.
Found a 2012 E63 that i'm very interested in but it's 3 states over from me and I have some reservations about spending ~$66k sight unseen. Only, 24k miles, ~22mo left on factory warranty, there is a clean CarFax, I got the DataCard from a link i found here, i called MB to confirm specs but because there were 3 onwers MB says that disqualifies it from an extended warranty.
The price seems very reasonable for an E63 with P30 and somewhat low miles.... would you all agree or have any words of advice for me about buying out of state? Is it worth a $600 RT ticket to go view it?
Thank so much!
I would be hesistant in this type of cars without an extended warranty if you plan to keep it beyond the factory warranty period. I wouldn't hesitate in buying out of state because that's what I did.
Maybe post something on the C63 forum side (much more traffic there) to see if somebody close to that area can go check out the car for you. IMO, it's not worthwhile to spend the time and that money just to go view it. Work out everything on the phone and have them send you photos and only go when you are ready to go pick it up.
I was going to have the car shipped versus driving 3 days back to CA... open to thoughts on that too.

I bought a "used" 2014 E63S with 85 miles on it from delaware, sight unseen, shipped for $850 to Illinois. However, with 22k on the ODO, and a 2012, I'd wanna see and drive it.
Pretend like the $600 is already gone -- go see the car if it's what you want in terms of options and color and miles
Call Dan Boone at Austin Tx benz and see if he'll write a warranty for this used benz -- have the VIN handy
For some reason I don't think the BMW dealer knew this E63 has the P30 perf package given the price... they didn't advertise it with P30 but when i pulled the datacard it was clear it had P30.... i wonder if that's possible. Looking forward to delivery hopefully next week. Thank you again for the leads on extended warranty... cheers!

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
These are the same prices my stealer gave me last year. To the OP, I too bought mine from Erin of Santa Rosa MB in CA. and I live in Iowa. I don't think you can get a better deal from anyone else. I called 10 dealerships and she was the lowest by far.
The prices for parts on these cars is ridiculous. A headlight for this car is $2500. So if you replace 2 headlights because of the hazing issue that's 5 grand right there. These cars weren't cheap when new and the replacement parts show that fact. I really don't think the risk is worth the cost if you need repairs. A lot of the after market warranty companies won't even offer coverage for these cars. So go without a warranty at your own risk.
Dan Boone was able to enter it as a new elw in the star database as my car only had 85 miles on it yet was already titled once. He said there was some loophole
I paid $2900 for the 7/75 plan for my 2010 and she didn't have to pull any strings. It had 13k on it when I bought it in June.
If it's any consolation M5's cost about the same. The bigger problem is to find a company that will warranty them at all. My dealership at first told me I was not eligible for the factory warranty as I was not the original buyer. I think that was because they wanted to steer me to their other warranty companies as they probably made more money on them. It was only after they found out that the companies wouldn't cover it that they told me they pulled some of those strings everyone is talking about and talked MB into offering me coverage.
The Mercedes ELW program is relatively clear in its requirements and its coverage.
Read:

"To be eligible, your Mercedes-Benz must be under the original new vehicle warranty period (4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first)"
There is a very extensive thread discussing the ELW here:

Sounds like what we are all getting is dealer speak and shadiness regarding what they're saying about the warranty offerings
If you read the thread I linked, you will see that an ELW is an ELW as long the car is still in the original warranty period. Pricing is based on dealer markup. There is a discount for purchasing within the first thirty days of delivery IIRC. So technically the owner of a new, new car may purchase the ELW for lower cost than a second owner or an owner who simply fails to act in the first month.
Terms for CPO are far less clear to me.

According to Erin you get a 10% discount if you buy the warranty with in the first 30 days.
On a CPO the biggest gotcha is if a car is purchased from a franchised MB and the car is not CPO'd by that dealer the car is not eligible for a MB warranty. If that same car was purchased somewhere other than a franchised MB it would be eligible for the MB extended warranty.
I wouldn't trust a dealership for anything. If you have a question that really matters to you, you should contact MB customer service directly. JMO
However, these Mercedes Benz owners probably do not love the high cost of repairing their cars, as there is no doubt that luxury cars (including Mercedes Benz used cars) generally cost more to repair than non-luxury cars. The main reason behind this is because:
the parts tend to cost more
the labor costs more due to more complex computer systems and/or parts.
In addition, special training can be needed to work on Mercedes cars, which makes the hourly labor rate higher than for other cars.

On 1/14 I purchased a 7/75 MB warranty from Erin of MB of Santa Rosa for $2947.50
I had bought the car in 6/13 and it had 13k on it and was 2010. It had 20k on it when I purchased the warranty from Erin.
I offered my local dealer the opportunity to match Erin's price and they tried to convince me that it wasn't a true MB warranty and the only way to make sure I got a true MB warranty was to buy it through them. It was and is a true MB warranty. You can't trust any dealer.
