E63 Gear box in manual mode slow?

I am thinking of purchasing a 2014 E63 AMG S. Upon reading reviews of the car it seems that the reviewers in several different reviews talk about how the gear box in manual mode is to slow for the car. That the car is so fast that ,that you have to shift much earlier then you are ready to in order not to redline it before the next gear will change . Can any owners comment on this ? Thank you.

I think there could be some truth to that. I just started using manual mode, but I did note to myself that it was a little slow to up-shift after pulling the paddle. But this may well be something you just adapt to. I'm not pushing to redline, but I did find myself almost immediately pulling the paddle earlier to compensate and it seemed ok. I'll need to play with it more to decide how big an issue this is.

i drive them all, fast and hard
its still only hundredths of a second

enless your driving a true manual car, paddle shifting is really kinda weird....ive been messing with it and for everyday driving its not very useful.
Spirited or track driving it seems to be pretty good....but S+ will do you right too

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
Ya, I agree Sport plus is best is what I've found. Things happen so quick with 600 lb ft of torque so even mill seconds can seem like forever when you gotta shift quickly, so just let the trans do the work is best. It's real nice too as in sport plus the car downshifts very nicely when entering corners and really slows you down, I think that's the main difference between sport plus and just regular sport mode is the downshifting ability in sport plus.
