Test drive S model
It was initially in the showroom and when it was at a cold start idle, the exhaust sounded like an aftermarket exhaust with a deep throaty sound. After it warmed up, the idle was more subdued. Initially, I was shocked that this type of exhaust note was coming out of a MB....excellent!
The test drive started with an immediate twist of the rotary dial into S plus mode. The salesman seemed surprised that I acclimated so quickly to the specifics of the car and the different settings, lol. Out of respect for the future owner I declined to try the Race Start function, but still had to make a joke about it, for the sake of disturbing the salesperson. I told him that the car was capable of a 3.4 0-60 time and I thought that we could improve on that with several good launches, after the tires were hot. He was very reasonable with his driving instructions, " just bring me back safe." Simple enough! We jumped on the highway and I did a short roll-on at 65 for a couple of seconds. Immediate response was the result. At this juncture, I would not have realized the E63 was turbo powered. It was extremely smooth and the thrust was immediate, even at lower revs.
The seats were supportive and very comfortable. After coming out of Cts v with recaros, I was specifically looking to assess the comfort factor, as those seats were difficult to adjust for long trips.
I did one more low speed roll-on and the 4 Matic made the process a no-brainer. Forward thrust that made my stomach drop out like the initial drop of a roller coaster. This was a brief burst and again at low revs. Amazing! my Cts v was Lingenfelter tuned and certainly did not have the thrust and smoothness of the E63 S. This is a 4 door super car, without a doubt.
Easy to check with the miles, and where the car is when you view it. In the showroom or up on a rack on the dealers lot - prolly has not seen the road yet.
If it's parked right out front though...
