I truly wonder what you have been doing with those 450miles. There is no reason for you to get nothing but summer tires if you live in the non-mountain areas of SoCal.
It is a known fact that summer tires perform better than all-season on both dry and wet surface as long as the temperature is above 45 degrees F and the tires are not slick-type without grooves. Yes, that means it performs better in the rain, too. Thus the max performance summer, ie PSS, is going to outperform the ultra high performance all-season, ie the PS A/S 3, under all conditions in SoCal, both dry and wet

To me, the relatively small loss of performance in the good weather was totally acceptable in order not to have to change out summer for winter tires every November/December and then change them back again after ski season.
If the roads get really nasty, beyond what all season tires can handle, I can just put on the chains I always carry if I'm going to the mountains.

I know for a fact with my E55 and with PS2 in rainy weather was not ideal. Also with Hankook Ev12.. I would spin tires in second even with slow throttle input. FWD cars in the rain would able pull on me cuz I could not get any traction. It would take me well in to 2nd to zoom by.
Where I live water comes down like small streams and full of mud and debris. All the water from foothills rush down to Chino and Ontario area.
In my past 2 AMG's all were summer tire cars.. I can tell you with %100 certainty on my own experience, you are not loosing much performance with A/S3 but you are increasing your lifespan of tires and have some flexibility for colder and wetter days.
I had my A/S3 over 1 month and my E550 makes more torque, earlier in RPM than my Stage 1 E55 and its 300lbs lighter. I'm not loosing any traction or cornering to my old Contin CS3's or Hankook Ev12.. maybe loosing traction slightly to the PSS.. but I'm not loosing sleep over it.

I am in and around Corona Del Mar.
Drove the wagon yesterday with the new A/S 3s on it. First impression is that they give a slightly stiffer ride - compared to the P Zeros originally on it - and they feel just a little more 'squishy' when making a quick, sharp turn.
Did any of the other A/S 3 people here feel the same results?

Would you mind sharing what brand and model of chains you have? And also where you got them from.

Man, now you have made me want to try on the A/S 3.

Security Chain SZ139 Super Z6 are sized for the 285/30-19 rears and are specifically designed for very limited clearance applications.

I got mine from amazon.com - they were in stock for $79 + tax. Better than driving around to see who actually had them in stock.

Been driving with these for amonth now and just put it thru its paces in 6" of snow last night. Did just fine on a 50 mile commute. Most of the highways were plowed. On the non-plowed streets, there was enough traction to inspire confidence at low speeds. These are not snow tires but I'm happy with the overall perforemance so far in the dry, wet and snow.

XL Load a must?
Hi All,
Related to the conversation here, I am replacing my Continental PRO contacts on 2012 CLS 550 which has a required XL load rating. based on all reviews and research, I really want to go with the Pilot Sport AS 3+ which has a load rating of 95Y. Does anyone have experience with this, and can I get away with a tire with less load handling? Alternative would be the Conti Extreme DW06 which is also a good tire but not as good as the Michelins...
thank you!

Michelin Pilot A/S 3+ on 2012 E350 4Matic with Sport Pkg
I had a tire bust and bubble in another due to road hazzard.
I put Michelin Pilot A/S 3+ from Costco for $800 for 4, on 2012 E350 4Matic with Sport Pkg .
Feels smooth ride with minimal noise. Not sure if the gas mileage may be slightly lower, but grips road well. Need to drive more before giving opinion on Gas Mileage.

I had the conti DWS 06 on my '15 Audi S4 and now have the A/S 3+ on the E63. I hated the Contis. There was too much play in the sidewalls when driving in a spirited manner. The Michelins feel like they have almost as much dry traction as the P Zeros they replaced, while having great grip in the wet. I highly recommend the Michelins.

I've been running the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 all seasons on my '13 CLS63 (RWD) even though I have a dedicated winter setup (Pilot Alplins) since I live in the upper midwest.
I was hesitant at first, but the tire guy at Costco (who happens to drive an older S class) suggested that I give them a try and I'm really glad that I did. I don't track the car, but everyday spirited driving is no different than the stock Conti's and they've held up very well over the past 6,000 miles or so. I'll always get Michelin if given the option and these tires really are great. I also like the fact that I can run these until the absolute last minute until there's snow on the ground without changing over to the winter wheels/tires.

Good info in here. I jokes put these on a W221 S class with the 20" plus one package. They are great. A/S 3+. Was deciding between that and the dws. The Michelin is currently the highest rated all season high performance and $70 rebate right now.

Had these on my E350 and will definitely be putting them on my E63. They look and drive fantastic! Also give a little bit of 'lip" around the outside of the rims. This will help keep the rim from getting scraped if you get a little too close to the curb.
The rear tires will wear out 4 times faster than the front because of the staggered fitment.

In the past when I spoke to a Michelin rep he explained how other manufacturers use multiple pieces when the tires are glued together and they don't use as many pieces. Maybe this is part of the reason - or that that Michelin has more money for R&D than most others out there.
