Yup, I read an AMG tech document somewhere that said the same thing...

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
It does however use the starter as well, as Benz states they made the starters "8x" more strong than before Eco to accommodate this extra burden

Perhaps I am missing the point of this thread, if so I apologize. There are three ways to defeat the start/stop after engine startup. First just push the ECO button on the dash. It leaves the system in C but defeats start/stop. Second rotate the mode control to S, S+ or M. Third program S, S+ or M into the AMG button, then push it after engine start. I generally use the AMG button because it also controls the suspension setting.

Or have RENNtech tune it to defeat the start stop on start no buttons or levers

Mine is a mystery too. I've been watching it and normally it only activates when the engine oil reaches 80 deg Celcius, but sometimes it just comes on early with the engine oil in the 20's!

i also thought ECO did cylinder deactivation as I surprisingly am seeing 24-25 mpg driving on C with ECO setting while on the highway (no start / Stop) but with out ECO and driving in S mode it was around 21-22mpg....I still cannot find any detailed explanation of exactly what ECO does aside from the obvious car start / stop to conserve fuel when you come to a stop.
Also - In my 2015 model i never see any Green ECO icon lit up on my dash when the ECO button by the radio is pressed (light turns green) for some reason??? Another I can't figure out is in the manual it states you go to the TRIP menu on the dash an can find an option for ECO DISPLAY which shows your driving characteristics for Acceleration Constant and Coasting but that isn't on my 2015 E63 S unless I'm missing something???

I wanted to to know if a stock car still requires wearing seatbelt to make Eco mode go active? I never noticed this before.

thanks Peter. Duh, I just figured out the ECO green icon on the dash actually does come up in my car when I'm eco mode and at the time the motor shuts off. The issue was I only use eco mode and C setting when the car is warming up and then switch to S mode after the oils is warmed up (160F) and eco mode doesn't kick in until the oil is at proper temperature which I was always impatient to wait for so thought it just was t working....I was wrong on that

mine is tuned and only works with the seatbelt on and after the oil is warmed up. Pretty weird!

I just noticed that too... i just finished running some errands driving around and tested this ECO mode again. Yes, it does appear you must have your seatbelt on or it doesnt work. I went from one red light to the next testing this and it only engaged ECO and stopped the motor when the belt was on.

thanks for confirming this. I was wondering if the tune caused this or not.

The seatbelt fastened is one of the parameters Mercedes programmed in for Eco mode to function. Therefore my Eco mode is defeated with my seatbelt off when I was stock, and tuned.

ok good to know the tune didn't affect this at all. I thought the tune made it more difficult to turn on by requiring the seat belt on to do so.

I disabled it As soon as I had the option to remove it completely, Eco button doesn't do a thing, just for looks now.
you can disable it Via OBD2 if you have the right tool
Seatbelt is a must, sometimes, if A/C is on or heater, it won't switch off the engine, Press brake ( double braking ) should not be activated when you stop.
I used to know all conditions how to make it work.
I even found a glitch that when I cause it, the green light disappears and the function can't be turned on until I restart my car
