New (to me) 2012 E63 Wagon questions
I recently bought an (almost, no CC brakes) optioned-out black/black/carbon 2012 E63 wagon. The one option Im not totally clear on is Limited Slip. Is there an easy way to determine of the car has that (other than observing a burnout)?
Have others put slightly wider or taller tires on the car? During the winter, I wouldnt mind some 285/35 in the back with a 255/40 up front to match the diameter and provide a smoother ride.
Are there a set of known-good set of 18x9.5" wheels for the car?
Where in the world are instructions for the Rear-entertainment stuff? The car came with a wireless game controller, and I have no idea how that would work with what appear to be screens from the 2012 MB accessories catalog.
Bought lifetime oil changes and a CPO 7/135 warrantee, but any other longevity hints? I'm replacing a car I had for 15 years and I'd like to do that again.
I look forward to debadging the car and hitting it with MacGuires Ultimate
Rear entertainment stuff, can't help you there my car does not have that and I know nothing about it. My car though I would not debadge, I'm just leaving it all stock.
1) Have the dealer run the vin number and look at the build sheet to see the presence of LSD.
2) '12 and '13 MY have the oem wheels in 18" (f9/r9.5) as an option for $500 additional.
3) Longevity should be pretty good. However, I'm sure you know the need to have a dependable budget if you plan to keep it beyond the end of 7 years. Some people have mentioned that all turbos eventually fail and the location of those turbos require the entire engine to be out of the bay for repair.
Congratuation, BTW!
Im looking for 18" wheels because I believe I could get adequate straight-line traction with less road noise and discomfort. Like many of us here, I have a "sports car" for fun drives where handling is important (C6 Z06 for fun drives and track days). The E63 is intended to be the best commuting car I can buy that will fit my wife and 3 boys.
I'll ask the dealer to run the VIN and find out about the LSD. Thanks.
Im actually least worried about the longevity of the turbos. I've had a lot of turbos in long-term autos and water-cooled turbos typically last a long time if you use synthetic oil. The air suspension, electronics (anything labelled Bosch), and drivetrain are where I'll be interested to watch for the next several years to see if its a "keeper".
In the meantime, what a great car! The Adaptive cruise is really tough to trust. So far I havent had the trust to take my foot away from the brake pedal while using it.

The start/stop stuff in Eco mode was fun for about.... 10 minutes.
