MBWorld Fanatic!
when they drill that little hole are they able to do the entire tune thru that? or that just allows them to open the box??
i wish we could have the rundown of what parameter each tuner changes, whatever those may be....but i guess that would be giving away competitor secrets
it would be nice because then tuner x can say we got 100hp by changing a, b and c because of this reason
and tuner y would give their rationale........oh well

Two of my tunes with OE were non drilled but its a royal pita because the glue that holds the board is so taut that if you bend the board you could flex a chip and baaaaaaaaaaam its over. One has to seriously heat up the glue or liquidate the adhesive to open the board--- I have heard of a few boards getting fried (not my tuner) and then you have to go to the dealer.
Yes the hole is exactly where the updates occur. I have seen tuners do a very good job (very) at sealing the hole and then using a paint to match the silver of the ecu. To the naked eye you can not tell where the hole was unless you saw where they drilled it.
As for the power of the tune anyone can up the boost and get more power as these cars are sitting at about 18.4 psi. But at what cost does that extra power come with? Blown plugs that gap too much? Busted internals? All for how much more hp? I go with a conservative tune and I know Renntech runs an "intermediate" tune which probably serves the same purpose.

After mashing the throttle a few more times, I'm now appreciating the speed the E63 produces. With its new tune, it's going to make for an interesting run against the Lambo. I have a decent selection of cars to choose from everyday, yet I find myself jumping into the E63 because its so much fun to drive.
On another yet related note, the B&O sound system is one of the best that I've heard in a car, super clear, it sounds like the vocalist is sitting in the back seat. In my opinion, the loss of trunk space was a fair exchange for the sound quality.

Please take your car to your local (good) muffler shop and have the center resonators removed for about 100-150 dollars.... you will not lose power the and M157 will become a beast but yet no drone!!!!!! The barks, oh the barks!!!!

Any good muffler shop can do it- heck Midas can do it just make sure they use good steel.
its a simple cut in the front and rear and then a quick fabrication of the straight pipes... you will gain about 20-30% WOT roar yet the car will remain rather docile in parking lot cruising enviros.
