self parallel parking

Any idea how this works on the 2014 e63? I thought it detects a spot and will offer to park the car for you. Can't seem to figure it out...

Works very well

The auto parking is scary good. It parks faster than I have ever parallel-parked, and I find myself hovering over the brake during execution. It lets you know when you pass an acceptable parking spot with an arrow pointing the direction next to the P in the display (left or right side). Pull up next to the car in front and OK the self park. It will quickly park the car, narrowly missing the curb and the car in front. Yikes! I wish there was a "slow" mode until I gain confidence in the abilities of this system. Amazing!

You have more hutzpah than I do! I will have to try it out now. I just keep thiking, I would never let the $100k car park its $100k self!

Thanks for the input!

Who's going to have the sack to try it in the snow? Not me!

Glad to hear the system works... I am looking forward to using it when the weather improves.

was the curb covered? was there snow on your car at all covering the sensors? That's my biggest concern. Glad to hear you got your car and are using it!

The driver assistance systems in my car, equipped with Pkg 995 & 997, could not deal with the heavy snow that was falling two weeks ago. The display told me that all the camera and sensor based systems had shut down.

This was a wet, heavy snow with reduced visibility and all pavement markings covered with a couple inches.

I'm pretty sure you need electric power steering to get self parking.

No sure if that is the compromise everyone wants.

Even with this much snow, the sensors work fine.

I have a 2014 e63 wagon on order but cannot figure out what the parktronics option is. The dealer just told me $1290 but I cannot see that option on the web. What is the correct option and where is it listed.

I think it is the:

Driver Assistance Package
$2,800
DISTRONIC PLUS® with Steering Assist
BAS® PLUS with Cross-Traffic Assist
PRE-SAFE® Brake with Pedestrian Detection
PRE-SAFE® PLUS
Active Blind Spot Assist
Active Lane Keeping Assist
!! Introduction dates vary. See your dealer for availability.

Depending on the car, it is either:
995
AMG PARKING ASSIST PKG
Surround View System

or

996
PARKING ASSISTANCE PACKAGE (996)
Surround View System
PARKTRONIC w/Active Parking Assist

I bought the drivers assist package but the surround view does not mention park assistance and is only 800 not 1290 the dealer quoted, before discount

You do NOT need Driver Assistance Pkg for the auto parking on 2014 models. My car parks itself, and we just got the Parking Assist Pkg, no Driver Assistance Pkg.

BTW, this thread should really be titled Self Parking, not "Parallel," since our ars can also park perpendicular, not just parallel!

you guys on this forum have been a big help. it seems like the dealership people do not know as much as they should about these cars. I test drove a sedan in one dealership who was clueless and then would not compete in price with a costco dealer in PA. but the PA dealer is not a wealth of information but has my wagon on order ( I hope )
