renntech experience
I decided to go with Renntech for a ecu upgrade on my 12 E63 wagon (with the M157 engine). Can anyone with first hand experience share good and bad stories before pulling the trigger.
The biggest reason for me was the fact I have an authorized Renntech MB dealer about 4 hours from me that will not void out my factory warranty if I buy and install everything through them!

All good here..I had to remove and send down south...UPS did a screwy delivery from my end but turned Renntech delivery in 2 days...zero issues..nada.. and some nice treats in the return box with the PCM...decals and stickers oh and somehow they jammed about eighty ponies in the box too

I have their tune on my 12 sedan. I did 24k miles on their tune and went thru 2 sets of ngk spark plugs. Plugs were the only issue but a lot of people the same issue and didnt matter which tune they had. Otherwise car is a beast and Renntech has great customer service if you need anything.

Replaced the plugs at the same time with new ones(cold) provided by Renntech.
Had problems with stock plugs after getting R1 package in my '13 CLS63 and problems went away when replaced the plugs so I didn't wait this time and just took care of it at the same time.

You will be very happy..especially with the new throttle response and nice linear power delivery..Renntech may be the priciest tuner but truly a class act

do you have to go through your dealer for the tune? do they do it there or remove the ecu for you and send it to florida?
If the dealer does the tune, do they drill the hole?

Renntech does not drill the ecu. You can remove it yourself and overnite it to them and it takes them 5 min to put the tune it and they ship it right back. There is a video on youtube with the instructions how to remove the ecu. Just google it. Very simple.

i may be wrong....but....im pretty sure it was eric who showed me his ecu at the airstrip event i met him at.....
steve at weistec told me they dont drill and they carefully take ecu apart....Faris can probably confirm that...he has their tune in his monster

I was told by the MB master tech no drilling on the ECU. The MB dealer does the removal, mailing to renntech and then puts it and the plugs, filter in at the dealership....I would do it myself but they will not honor the factory warranty so I get to pay the $135 a hour charge for them to do the work and keep my warranty. to me it's worth the extra $1k from them to do everything in case something happens

Renntech did indeed drill my ECU at the time (maybe it's a different process now), but it was explained to me that this was the safest method and so far I couldn't be happier with the product.

i hope u have in writing from mercedes central that if something goes wrong with the car and it is tied to the ECU that they wiill cover it.........with out that i wouldnt believe a darn thing...goodluck

I also have second untouched ECU with stock tune. Hopefully i dont have to use that

right, but i guess the dealer or whomever can detune or uptune it also based on the data files.....because thats basically the diff between a non and PP car is the ecu tune

Nope, dealer will upload all the files that are associated with your VIN and thats it. They cant do more. Every ecu is programmed based on what comes up on your VIN number..
