I was pulling out the CC and thinking "warranty be damned, who is this dealer?!?!"

Id much rather have mine drilled than flexed out....

This why they are drilled.
Instead of cracking open the whole box they drill a access hole for a button/ switch on ECU board to be depressed.

The ECU is basically a myriad of chips on the board glued to the outer shell. The early adopters had their ECU's tuned via the removal of the glue from the board. This would yield a naked board (I had my CLS63TT in Nov 2011 done this way) but it was very hard to remove the glue and I "heard" that several tuners flexed the board due to force causing the electronics to fail (chips). This renedered the car dead. Subsequently the tuners found where they need to update the ECU and just drilled the hole; no glue removal or board flex or chance of frying the board.
The reason I would do this instead of going to an "authorized Renntech Dealer", is that the closest authorized Renntech Dealer is about an hour away from me. Also, it seems that the closest Renntech Dealer to me is more of a wheel/tire installer, not expert MB mechanic. If there are problems with the ECU that need fixing (like a plug swap), I would think my local independent Mercedes repair shop would be better equipped to do it.
So I guess I am asking did you Renntech ECU purchasers go thru one of the authorized Renntech dealers, or thru an independent repair shop, or through a Mercedes dealer? Thx!
