Math for 18x9.5 ET32 on the back of a wagon?

I know it depends on the tire, so I'm going to start with Vic55's old "perfect offset" of a HRE C97's 20x9 (et 29) and 20x10 (et 39) with 255x30 and 295x25 Nitto Invos that he put on his 2011 sedan.

The section width of a Nitto Invo 295/25x20 is 11.50".

So "math" says that perpendicularly the outside of Vic55's rear tire is (11.50x25.4/2 - 39) away from the hub face. (107mm)

An 18" Michelin AS3 at the 32mm offset can be ([107+32]*2) = 278mm section width, which is 10.94"

The Michelin with a 10.94 or less section width and a diameter close to 26" is a 275/35x18 or a 275/40x18 (26" and 26.7" diameter).

They both have a section width of 10.9, which is damn close to the distance from the fender that Vic55 was running (and which had little room for error).

I could really use a good set of all-season tires with a taller sidewall than the current stock 285/30x19 Continentals, but I don't want to be limited to 1/2 throttle all the time.

Will 275mm Michelin AS3's leave that much traction on the table? These TSW Tanakas in matte black only come in ET32 and I have a feeling they'd look pretty good (for 18s) on the wagon for the $ they cost.
