Drag setup question
Hey guys,
I posted this in the 218 section with no responses, I know you E63 guys are more active. I'm heading to a fantastic 1/4 mile event next month and I want to get the most out of the car.
I can either run my stock forged 19" wheels, or my Klassen 20's that weigh 4 lbs lighter per wheel. What's a greater factor in the 1/4 mile, lighter wheels or smaller diameter? Or, will it be negligible?
Thanks

You're rwd, correct?
I know there are guys here that can bust out the physics/math but my gut tells me if the outer diameter of both setups is essentially the same, then lighter rims will prevail technically but it will Probably be a wash in the end. Granted the mass on the lighter rims is pushed further out along the radius but..... A wash
Which set has better tires? If you're rwd then hooking up may be the most important for your 1/4 mile time... Less unsprung weight will probably be more beneficial for your trap speed.
That being said, I hear the "experts" about to chime in now....

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll be driving my AWD CLS63, so traction is not really a factor. That said, my oem wheels have grippier tires vs my 20's with NITTO's, I might have to throw on the Vbox and do some Mexico runs to get a better idea.

Can anyone recommend the DR size for CLS63 AMG Biturbo? I bought the CLK 16' wheels. I don't know which DR to buy for them? Fabtech recommends 255-50-16 Hoosier DRs for w211 AMG, however, I believe that W218 AMG have larger wheel arch, thus might fit a larger DRs. Please share your thoughts.

With Drag radials.
1. Drop tire pressure down to 25 psi.
2. ESP OFF
3. Do no more then 2-3 second burnout (hold left foot brake really hard, right foot gas pedal and rev it up full throttle in drive. It will shift gears. As soon as you see smoke, let go of brake and stay full throttle out of the burnout box to clean debris off tires.
3. Use launch control or Left foot hard on brakes and right foot gas pedal until car is about to move. Let go of brakes and mash the pedal!

Use that setup its perfect. Do not mess with larger diameter tires, It's not about how much tire you can fit its about the correct proportions. You will change the gear ratio and effectively slow your car down from what it can really be doing… The formula is set for the tires and CLK wheels already. They work amazing. Use them and enjoy! GL and chime back and tell us how you did!

What's the best way to launch a AWD E63S at the strip? Without using Launch control, my guess would be to put Trans in S+, suspension in stiffer mode, Traction off and brake torque the engine off the line. I will go to the track first thing in the Spring, any suggestions ?

push brake and hold the revs at 2000-2500 rpm. make sure you don't hold it too long. once you release the brake don't push the accelerator too hard unless you reach 3500 rpm from there you can push it hard!

THERE IS ONLY REAR TOE ADJUSTMENT
So at K-MAC we manufacture rear (and front) precisely adjustable Camber kits (with extra Toe to compensate).
- Single wrench to dial in more even tire wear traction!
